Jon Johansen joins forces with Michael Robertson
Jon Johansen (aka DVD Jon, aka the dude behind DeCSS, scourge of DRM lovers everywhere) just landed himself a gig working for Michael Robertson (aka the founder of MP3.com, Lindows/Linspire, SIPphone, and Project Gizmo) at his latest startup, MP3tunes. Neither party will say what exactly Jon is going to be working on, except to say that it has something to do with reverse engineering. Our best guess is that somehow whatever they're working on involves messing with Apple's FairPlay DRM, being that last year Jon introduced an app called PyMusique which let users buy DRM-less songs from the iTunes Music Store, and Michael has long been critical of Apple's commitment to proprietary, closed-source standards.
