Samsung and Sharp very optimistic of LCD sales

Upward sales trend

Samsung and Sharp, two of the biggest LCD manufacturers, have high hopes for the future. They're on a sales pace, according to them, for 100 million LCD panels from Samsung and 150 million for Sharp by 2010. That's great for them and I think I know how they are going to accomplish this.

LCDs have no competition from other types of flat panel displays under 37-inches. Yes, plasmas are and will dominate that large flat panel TV segment, but smaller tube TVs outsell their larger counterparts 25 to 1. Over the next few years, I think you can expect to see normal tubes phased out as smaller LCDs (32-inches and smaller) drop drastically in price. A lot of people like big TVs but usually they only have one in their household. So therefore if a company was gunning for volume rather then size, they would aim to replace the smaller TVs that occupy our bedrooms and kitchens. This is simply my outlook on this and the only way that I believe that Samsung and Sharp will be able to hit that lofty goal.

Do you think that I'm off track here? What else could account for that large of amount of LCDs?
