New Sony Ericsson clamshell Walkman phone
Not sure why they felt the need to tear it apart (except maybe to prove to everyone that it's the real deal), but
someone in China got their hands on what looks like a new clamshell-style Sony Ericsson Walkman phone (and it's not
that completely dubious W900i that was going around, either). Can't seem to find a model number for the phone, but our
tipster says it may be codenamed "Mulan". Anyone know anything more about this one?
[Thanks, Sutitan]

Alien Phone
Honestly,
I dont think its real
I hope its not real
Well, and ussualy "walkman" SE phones have designated music buttons...I didnt see any on the phone. Seems sorta strange. And everything just seems so non se... Plus the ext memory slot looks way to small for a MSD but looks like it accepts MicroSD or something like that
But thats just me...
was that a 128mb built in ram chip i saw in the pic? its hard to tell as the pics are kindof fuzzy but i think thats waht it says on it...anyone?
It's believed that if real it's a very early prototype model.
The external memory slot could possibly be the new Memory Stick Micro format which was announced a few weeks ago.
The keypad is an example of good and orignial industral design i love it....yet if it is real....if i were SE i would change the colur the all silver does not look good.
I still don't know. The pictures aren't blurry enough to be legit.
The style of the loop antenna is definately like the w600. It seems like this phone fits the SE style to me. Also, it is clearly a GSM phone from the SIM card slot, but I wonder if it is quad or tri band. Also what is up with the small buttons below the soft keys?
Looks nice.
But why not just get something like the Audiovox SMT5600 on Cingular? Or the i-mate SP5m music phone for any GSM network?
They play any MP3, WMA or Ogg you want -- plus DRM-encoded files from Napster, Yahoo Music, etc. They're already on the market, and they let you play as many songs as you want by adding as many miniSD cards as you can afford. (I fit about 10-12 CDs on my 512MB miniSD card.)
Plus with full color album artwork and easy synchronization with Windows Media Player 10, I'd pit my Audiovox SMT5600 against an iPod Shuffle, nano or ROKR any day.
#2 - it looks as though it may get didicated music buttons under the outer screen at some point in its development as it looks like there is a space there designed to be cut out for a feature that is not yet on that model...
Still, definately SonEricsson style and definately a phone we can be sure of at least that much
I'm having a tough time believe it to be a walkman phone or maybe I was just/am still hoping for something better looking. It looks dull. Yes, i know it's probably not the final thing.
note all the serial numbers on the innards. whoever tore this phone apart had better hope SONY doesn't try to trace the phone (like that it was delivered to Mr. Tipster in R&D) or he might be seeking new employment..
I'd say that Sony has a real chance to get a major advantage in the cell phone w/ music player market.
Moto/Apple blew it with the ROKR...
Sony has a huge opportunity...
is it me or there's nothing to indicate that it's a walkman? Seems like the keypad is way too big and a waste of space...if this is more than just a simple phone.
according to those picture on

one picture showed clearly a sticker on the PCB....it come across to me tht FIH stand for Foxconn International Holding...the second largest EMS company in the work after Flextronics
So this is either a unit asked by SE to be made for some purely testing reason or it is a real phone meant for the market.
From the look of it...it could be a very low end Walkman phone tht meant for developing country.
It's real
It use Memory Stick Micro (M2)

the phone looks so unreal as if made up of plastic. the truly walkman phone is surely w800i.
