Guaranteed Xbox on eBay: $1,000+
It looks like some people on eBay are apparently snapping up pre-release Xbox 360 units for sometimes over $1,000, even despite the caveat that it's not really actually properly pre-release, per se, since the units won't ship until their release date (hey, even eBay peeps have to follow the rules). So yes, basically these people are paying for the privilege of not having to wait in line, safe in the knowledge that they have nothing to worry about when it comes to the console being sold out. But damn, didn't they get the memo that you're supposed to pay through the nose for your new toy after everyone's out, not before?

this is stupid, might as well save that 1000$ and buy a nice bundle pack on the release date...
Yeah quite. I'd sell my preoder if I had a guranteed first batch for $1000. Unfortunatly I'm on the second batch. Fingers crossed for a xmas despatch.
I doubt, as expensive as the bundles are especially, that Xbox360's will be sold out. I think Microsoft knows what it's doing this time around, they will make it appear as though there is a demand, but the stores will always seem to get some in when needed. At least I hope so. You would hope someone would figure it out after EVERY other console has had the same demand at launch.
Everyone knew this was goin to happen. Let's just hope the majority of the people buying these for outrageous prices are people in Europe (or a country with a later release date).
Even so... waiting an extra month or two instead of speading 3 times as much would be more logical.
Wow, anyone want to buy the one I won from mountain dew?
You know... first I laughed, and laughed... then I thought shit I need to sell my pre-ordered X360 if I can now get a 1000 dollars for it...
The sad part is I've played X360 at EB games in the mall and I was not impressed at all... first off call of duty 2 it's ok but is that the game that makes you want to run out and buy the system... NO...
then is it PG3.. NO... KingKong ...NO.... Perfect Dark Zero.. maybe... but the jury is still out on that one...
So then I think what am I really waiting to play..... Gears of War... Well it looks cool enough but i'm worried that it won't be as cool as playing halo was when it first came out.
and speaking of halo... dam that would be the game that would make me run out and buy a system at all cost, if I could get H3 with it.. but NO... that's not coming out no time soon and as far as I can tell it's not even in the works yet.. are you serious please tell me this is not true
Some people say it will drop when PS3 comes out, well that summer of 06 so if that's going to happen the game would have had to have been in the works for atleast 2 years now.. lol
so don't hold your breath on a summer 06 release.
And with that missing I really don't know why I even reserved my X360 because I still don't know what game I really want to play on it.
The games I played at the store all just seem like regular xbox games with better graphics... so if you where amazed by X360 I don't know what you where playing on your computer but i've been playing Doom 3, Battlefield 2, F.E.A.R, Quake 4 and I gotta tell you, I really just wanted to go back to my computer... nothing on the X360 really has me excited.
Now i'm on a Dell XPS 3.0 GHZ -ATI X800 pro and my game seem to have more detail then it did on X360 but maybe that was the LCD's falut... or At least I hope that's why a game system with 3 processors at 3.2GHZ would look the same as on my computer.
So is it hype or is it really amazing... I'm begining to think the first one may be true, and if that's the case I really don't know why you would buy it on ebay for a 1000 dollars when there really is no killer game coming out on the system yet. (Gods of War) somehow I doubt that the game is really going to be that good, sure it looks amazing, but how does it play - Looks a little rushed to me.
Well that's my thoughts on it, end of Nov.. you will get the chance to decide.
Microsoft is actually planning on them all being sold out and are telling stores how to "advertise" it:

I think it's a better strategy than Sony's spike-then-slump approach for releases. Microsoft is planning a continual wave of console shipments so as never to have the 2-3 month gap of nothing like Sony. It should keep the black market prices down once people realize that there will be a continual restocking as opposed to the "if I didn't get it on release day, then I won't get one for 3 months" attitude. Kudos if Microsoft pulls it off, as I'm sure the industry is watching.
The games do suck, that's why I'm putting mine on Ebay. I bought my pre-sale ticket on May 13th when it was unveiled on MTV.
That $1,000 is going to help pay for my 45" Aquos... Yeah!!
bah...i was planning on doing the same thing!
I won a 360 on the Pepsi be first to play promo, should recieve it around the 15th, I told myself no way was I giving it up, but with all the launch games that are being delayed (all the good ones) I may sell it on eBay before it drops officially. Then I'll still have a Free 360 PLUS free games that don't suck... but can I wait patiently for the good games or get my grubby troll hands on that pristine controller now? Hey at least I didn't spend $800 to play Fantavision and Street Fighter Ex III on launch day like some fools, I was still pimpin' a Dreamcast with great games. I'm old.
Ryan: hell yeah! The Dreamcast rocks! I say sell it and by it back in January and make some quick cash

You really played the 360 with 360 games? Or is i just a load of crap like everyting else you said.
Adam what part of what I said did you not understand... I played it... i'm in NYC and at EBgames they have an xbox on display that you can play.. if you don't believe me call the store and ask them... why would I lie about playing it, doesn't make me seem any cooler especially when I said I don't like it...
Most people here are so gone on X360 that when someone says something bad or against that they get all upset and start going crazy... look if you like it fine, i'm happy for you.
I was just giving my honest opinion and it's not a load of crap you don't like if fine it's a free country .... enjoy - I didn't
I saw nothing special about X3 if you ask me it would have been better if they just said xbox 1.5 because it's not that hot... trust me... but hey, don't take my word for it, go play it find a store in your area that has the display model out and go play- I hear walmart has them out too... judge for your self.
instead of just trying to talk about stuff you have no idea about... especially when you didn't play if for your self so how the hell would you know. Play it first then comment... otherwise, just stay in your lane and be a reader, not a clown adding foolish comments.
QFT!! LOL #12 is another kid thats obsessed w/ some new system that has not even been released... Ive played the 360 for a few minutes at a store and must agree with crazy, im right back at my computer...
Don't really know what the editor of ths article is talking about. Most 360s (without games) on ebay (for preorder) right now, can be had for less then $500.00.
However, I wish this were true, or becomes true, so that I can go pick up a Wal-mart 360 and resell it (or two) and turn a profit.
I am gonna guess that the latest round of consoles are going to be the buggiest release hardware ever. Now, more than ever it is important to wait. If i'm spending what they're wanting for these new consoles, they better work right.
If you wait 6 months to a year you: get the console for cheaper, software is patched, hardware is retro-fitted with a change (or new board/chip that doesn't have the flaw, more games to play/better games etc. etc. etc.
#7, that link you gave said this at one point..."Other details include the fact that 7GB of the double-layer game DVD media are available for storing game data, and that the HD will be used as a cache for game data." does that mean its gonna have a dvd burner in it? are we going back to the old days of cartrige saves, except with optical media this time? if its rewriteable, that might be one heck of an idea.
Andrew,
" retro-fitted with a change (or new board/chip that doesn't have the flaw"
that's usually the change that makes it harder to hack/crack. No thanks :). I'll keep the first revision they're able to "jimmy". That'll probably be 1.0.
My last post is directed torward Cecil, oops!
Really "Andrew",
From reading what you've typed that doesn't connote to a burner. What it's saying is discs store around 7 gigs (you know, double layer DVD limitation [8.152]) and hard drive will cache (similiar to what it does now). Or memory units for the core units, although they sounds kind of limited (64MB memory unit). I see that the HD is sold as an accesory so it must be hot swappable with the core system. Gonna need it for Xbox 1 games.
genius! I should start selling a REVOLUTION ;)

Merrill Lynch just released hardware cost estimates for the PS3 and 360. Here's why I'm waiting a year for when the PS3 is out to get my 360:
"…The PS3 will not only be significantly more costly than Xbox 360 at launch, but will continue to operate at a cost disadvantage for several years. … We think that the Xbox 360 could be selling at half the price of PS3 in the latter half of 2006."
"…Our analysis indicates that Microsoft has a significant advantage in terms of cost. Taking Sony's weakened financial condition and Microsoft's deep pockets into consideration, we conclude that Microsoft's Xbox 360 should emerge as the early winner in the next round of the game console wars."
I don't think it'll be 1/2 the price of the PS3, rather significantly (at least $100) less.
Here's the whole article:

Sony has the "cooler"/higher-end technology, but it's definitely costlier and I don't think the games will be any better. Plus, Xbox has Live and online is a key component for me which Sony won't come close to competeing with. Until they've done it, they have no idea what they are getting into.
Why miss out on fighting for the last Xbox 360 at the store on release day?
