3D TV from IBM for $20?

3D TV from IBM

Ok, you have to spend a few grand for the HDTV set to begin with, but IBM expects that they can add 3D to it for about twenty bucks. Sounds like a good deal to me. You still have to wear some funky polarized glasses, but leave it to the fashion designers; they'll find a way to make you look hip with these goggles.

IBM demonstrated the technology at the 22nd annual Flat Information Displays conference in San Francisco with a run-of-the-mill DLP television. Using special software and hardware, IBM splits the image into two. Using the special specs, the image is perceived as three-dimensional from the viewer. The new technology costs about a grand to retrofit today, but the cost should drop dramatically over time.
