Neuros pumps up Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2 for PSPs and iPods
Neuros has updated its standalone MPEG-4 Recorder and set it sights squarely on PSP users in the process, dumping the SD support of the original model in favor of MemoryStick, and adding the PSP's native 368x208 as a recording resolution option. The Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2, as it's called, also adds support for iPod compatible video, as well as 640x480 resolution for better playback on TVs. Like the original model, the MPEG-4 Recorder 2 can rip video from just about any source without the need for a PC, although with just a MemoryStick for storage (or a CF card using the available slot) you're not going to be able to load it up with lots of stuff in one shot. It'll run you $150.

368*208 isn't the native format of the PSP, that would be 480*272. 368*208 is the hacked up version of 320*240 for widescreen content.

Why would they drop support for SD? After all SD and Memory Stick use the same connector. With SD they could support PalmOS devices as well.

I wonder what chipset this uses?
I have tried recording home video to my HD directly but I get a "shaky" result and need a standalone converter such as this, so I can pass thru and then record on my PC's HD.
I also wonder how good the video editing ("Video ToolBox") bundled software is?

Something I didn't get from the article:
How does doing this with the ipod work?
Will I have to:
- Buy a reasonably big MemoryStick/CF
- Record video onto flash memory
- Copy MemoryStick/CF data to PC
- Copy data on PC to iPod via iTunes
?
?

Wait, does this device remove CSS? It rips from any source, but what about encrypted ones?

so is there no way to direct dump the data this device records directly to a PC or MAC?
if this is the case ... is there something like it that does?

There are dozens of products on the market to capture video to a computer directly via USB or firewire. There have been for years. This is not the market the NMR2 is aimed at.
sick_of_encoding: that process sounds correct to me (1GB flash card will hold ~60 min at 640x480 resolution).
Note: SD and memory stick do not have exactly the same connector. They have similar form-factor and so can use a similar slot shape, but are not identical. However, you bring up a good point in that many card readers co-locate SD and memory stick slots, so why not the Neuros recorder?

I ordered one of these suckers on 12/4... today is 12/11 and it still hasn't shipped. Email support is slow and not particularly helpful. I don't even really need this thing but if I can support non-drm media, I'm in. That being said -- Caveat Emptor.
On the other hand, my v3c didn't show up on time, I can't get my new microdrive to show up in my laptop, and apparently Gamefly takes about a week and a half to roundtrip a disc, so maybe it's just me.
