High definition in the operating room

breckley

Last month we asked if high definition is really necessary in medicine. Apparently someone besides us HD freaks thinks so. The Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital in West Virginia equipped all four of their operating rooms with HD equipment. How did it turn out? They love it!

They like the ability to see in greater detail and contrast. The doctors are experiencing the "it feels like you are there" effect; though I am sure those doctors are familiar with HDTVs. It seems that they like the digital format the best though. Digital film is so much easier to work with and requires a lot less "stuff." Plus, if you want to consult a doctor in, let's say...Switzerland, both doctors can be looking at the same images live.

Next time I need some surgery, I will take a road trip to West Virginia 'cause we all know everything is better in high definition.
