In yet another marriage of the legal system and SMS, shifty South Koreans can now receive their indictments via text message. The service also provides information regarding fines and penalties and yes, it does require recipients to opt in via registration. As the reasoning goes, 75 percent of the population carries cellphones so why not expedite a process which currently requires officials to send legal notices on paper and save a couple hundie million won each year to boot. Yeah, that sounds great but does the average law-abiding Hong Gildong really care to receive these notices with such expediency? The service kicks off tomorrow just in time to make the most of your nefarious resolutions for the New Year, eh perps?
