LaCie's Skwarim designer external drives
Somehow LaCie managed to be a bit low profile with their new Skwarim
external drives during CES, but you know we do love a well designed device -- no matter how bland its function. So you
can imagine why we're feeling the square 3.3-inch wide Skwarim external USB 2.0 drive designed by Karim Rashid (who
done work for Issei Miyake and Prada, and is the creator of an Engadget fav, the Umbra Oh Chair). Available in 60 or
30GB sizes and his n' hers colors with a distinctive "bulging" pattern for $200 and $150, respectively.

So the 60GB is $50 cheaper than the 30GB model?

60 and 30 GB for $150 and $200 respectively? I'm just gonna assume the smaller drive is less expensive.

I want one, i'm so weak for pretty colours.
sure it was just a typo here, but from the site:
"30GB LaCie Skwarim Hard Drive Hi-Speed USB 2.0 (Pink) $149.99
60GB LaCie Skwarim Hard Drive Hi-Speed USB 2.0 (Blue) $199.99"

Huh. Just took his Millenium design for NYC manhole covers and slapped it on a drive enclosure.
Nice way to make a quick buck, I guess.

Wow, for a second there, I thought we were looking at lego flash drives!
LOL

So this is an external hard drive that you can also use as a coaster? That's what it looks like to me.

Okay, call me cynical. Call me cheap. But don't call me stupid because I call any 60GB USB drive that costs $200.00 a colossal waste of money!
Wait... that picture... it's so, so... square!... so pink... so bumpy... so... mezmerizing!!... How did my credit card end up in my hand... How did I end up at LaCie's web site... A strange urge to "confirm order" has come over me... Noooooooooooo.....
:)

Another hideous plastic design from karim rashid.
That pattern looks stolen from tail light lenses.
Biddy @ Jan 10th 2006 4:31AM
The pattern's a bit too MINISTRY OF SOUND for me.
