MyVu Personal Media Player: LCD goggles for the iPod
Remember those Orange LCD goggles we
checked out last week? The ones being pitched in France as a virtual display for Samsung's SGH-D600 cellphone? Well,
manufacturer MicroOptical Corp. is pretty busy, because this week they're hawking the same goggles at Macworld as the
MyVu Personal Media Player, which they claim will "accelerate" the adoption of the iPod by providing
"hands free, head-up access to a large virtual image." We may be naive here, but we somehow don't think Apple
needs MicroOptical to accelerate the iPod's market growth. MicroOptical doesn't list a price for the MyVu, but the
French version is €299 ($361), so we expect similar pricing here.

I've really tried. But that picture just looks like porn to me. Am I a bad person?
hoplite @ Jan 11th 2006 2:22PM
Last time I seen a mouth like that was on the other end of a fishhook.
brandon @ Jan 11th 2006 2:25PM
It's bad enough when you see people talking to themselves because they are wearing bluetooth earpieces. Now they can look even cooler wearing one of these.
ventivent @ Jan 11th 2006 2:25PM
Captain to Commander LaForge...you're own personal holodeck has arrived.

#1. Nick. No. That doesn't make you a bad person. Buying one of these would though.
booey @ Jan 11th 2006 2:41PM
I'm with you nick, that chick looks dirty in a good way.
supersocialist @ Jan 11th 2006 2:50PM
Give me the Buddy Holly framed, prescription version and I'll try one out. Give me one that'll work with a Windows Mobile device running Nethack, and I'll throw down.
Wowzers @ Jan 11th 2006 3:44PM
Anyone know how I can get in touch with the gal in the pic? She's hotter than a Macbook Pro...
lionel @ Jan 11th 2006 3:48PM
agreed... that chick is hot.
furtim @ Jan 11th 2006 4:48PM
You people frighten me.
Anyway, I'm holding out for a full-on Ghost in the Shell cyberbrain. Damn, those things are sweet.
Boston @ Jan 11th 2006 5:13PM
I'd throw it in...

I wish they'd do a version that you could see through. Those things assume you're just going to watch the video when I'd rather be able to multitask. They also assume you won't be walking around. Give me a set of glasses that I can see through and have a HUD display layered over what I normally see...

Marty Junior: Dad, telephone, its Needles.
Marlene: Dad, it's for you.
Marty: All right, well, I'll take it down in the den. Excuse me.

That picture really is priceless--good capture guys! I vote we make her the official Engadget mascot. Her expression behind those ridiculous goggles speaks volumes.

I agree. She's either watching prOn or starring in it.

I thought that Cyclops (from XMen 2) was a dude?
These things are pretty much uber gay. And when I say uber gay, I mean that they are so awesome that I want to crap my pants.
Jerry Kindall @ Jan 11th 2006 8:22PM
Price was I think $270 on $280 on the show floor at Macworld. The view throug them is pretty good, all things considered, but fairly low-resolution -- you can easily see the dots.
stulong @ Jan 11th 2006 9:24PM
Actually she is reacting to having something piercing her nose. yuck

Simply hilarious.
As for the device itself, does it come with a reusable barf bag and a voucher for excedrine and dramemine ? Or did they finally figure out how to keep these things from making people sick after the first few minutes...

Dude, furtim is right on. We're only about 10 years from crazy Ghost in the Shell cyberbrain interfaces. I can't wait to "dive" into the net with my MIND!
Abhi @ Jan 12th 2006 10:29AM
HAWTTT !! and assuming the position !!!
KingBoo @ Jan 13th 2006 2:15PM
I've been playing with one of these things the last couple of days. The pics is OK, kind of like watching a normal 13 inch television about 6 feet away or so. Not a whole lot spectacular going on here. What I find intersting is the form factor and the price. The form factor is nice, and actually feels like it will withstand some of the rigors of being a mobile tv junkie. All in all not bad, and for the price may be worth it. I'm sure just like the rest of the net, pr0n will push this even further.
