Nintendo DS dominates Japanese charts [Part 2]

Just a couple of days ago, Japanese software sales were released for the week after Christmas. Last week's figures are no different in favor of the DS handheld and Nintendo as a publisher. Top software sales in the land of the rising sun from January 2 to January 8 were as follows:

#. Platform - Title - Publisher - This week's sales

1. NDS - Brain Training 2 - Nintendo - 290,000
2. NDS - Animal Crossing: Wild World - Nintendo - 133,000
3. NDS - Mario Kart DS - Nintendo - 115,000
4. NDS - Brain Training for Adults - Nitnendo - 114,000
5. NDS - Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time - Nintendo - 98,000
6. PS2 - Kingdom Hearts 2 - Square Enix - 83,000
7. NDS - Brain Training for Kids - Nintendo - 63,000
8. NDS - Tamagotchi no PuchiPuchi Omisecchi - Bandai - 62,000
9. NDS - Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon Blue - Nintendo - 57,000
10. GBA - Pokemon Fushigi no Dungeon Red - Nintendo - 49,000

DS Fanboy notes that 8 out of the top 10 titles were for the DS, while the same number was published by Nintendo. Yeah, yeah, the Nintendo and its shiny 2-screener are doing well in Japan (a la McDonald's 4 billion served). But Sony will be releasing six new titles for the PSP in the coming months, so it should be interesting to see if or how games on the multifunction device could affect the handheld marketplace.
