Text for free with ad-supported i-Text service
If you send a lot of text messages and aren't on a cellphone plan that lets you get away with it without breaking the bank, you may want to give i-Text a try. The free service works with any Java-enabled GSM/GPRS phone, and serves up an ad every time you send a text message. Of course, you're still going to have to pay for GPRS usage, as well as for text messages you receive, so you'll have to do the math to see whether using this service (and paying for the bandwidth to download the ads) is a better deal on your plan than just paying your provider for SMS.
