Not that it comes as any
surprise, but it looks like Cingular is gearing up to promote the Motorola SLVR L7. Engadget reader Wheelsee passed
along the picture above, which he says was circulated to employees in a Cingular Wireless store today. Obviously,
there's no way to confirm the authenticity of this, but we won't be totally shocked if the SLVR begins showing up in
Cingular stores within the next few weeks.
I bought a SLVR (brand new) from a guy on ebay. Can anyone email with Cingular's contact email address or help with trying to unlock the phone to take UK Vodafone sim card. I love the phone.... Regards John
iTunes and the 100 song limit back AGAIN? I like the form factor, but customers already showed what they thought of the ROKR E1 (aka FAILR) with their wallets ...
The phone might sell well, but it won't be because of iTunes and that arbitrary limit everyone loves to hate - it will be because it is really well designed.
I've had this phone for a liite over month... not bad. No headphone jack is whack, despite including usb headphones and or BT availability...
Haven't tested the 100 song limit... since I dont really use the phone as an ipod-esque device.
as per usual, long smooth screen face shows every bit of human/ear/face goodness after each call. Yum. Great speakerphone quality and all the usual deets as per RAZR. Battery time seems ok so far...
only real problem so far is the button that holds the back on (for battery and SIM access). I have had to re attach it (first time epoxy, second time Krazyglue). Poor design, but functioally phone works fine without it.
the dummy also came in(link included below)...alas reading over the training material looks like still no support for bluetooth stereo and the 100 song limit :(
#1,5: blame yourselves. by buying music that is crippled by drm you are telling apple that you will put up with arbitrary restrictions on things that you purchase.
"iTunes and the 100 song limit back AGAIN? I like the form factor, but customers already showed what they thought of the ROKR E1 (aka FAILR) with their wallets ."
Justin, give me a break -- the average Joe doesn't give two sh--s about the 100 song cap. Only techie dorks who post on Engadget would care about that. People didn't reject the ROKR 'cause of the cap -- they rejected that phone because it was fugly (and it was a moderate success anyway.)
First off, there aren't any transflash cards over 512 mbs yet anyway I don't think, and if there are average Joe doesn't know where to get one, etc. Second, most people don't even know about the 100 song limit and assume that it is just like how the Shuffle "has 120 songs." They have no idea the thing is expandable.
Justin, you remind me of the ultimate techie dork who is under the illusion that everyone is as knowledgeable as the average engadget reader. Guess what? They're not.
I already have the SLVR ... picked it up over christmas break when I was in india ... was selling for roughly $240; you can pick one up on ebay for $350-400. i think its an amazing phone.
mine doesn't have itunes - it has a motorola branded java player and also their built in "sounds" interface; neither have the 100 song limit. Sound quality is great and ringer is loud as anything (on 7). The transflash is sweet; waiting for the 1gb transflash to retail.
anyword on whether cingular will supporot PTT with it? or whether it works with 3G?
I don't see why everyone complains about the 100 song limit. Who needs more then 100 songs on their cellphone? Does anyone even listen to more then 100 songs a day?
#21, sometimes I think people complain for the sake of complaining. Such is the case here (geeks are no exception). I play my iPod all day at work, and it plays about 92 songs before I head home.
I'd look quite firable holding my phone to my ear all day at work, so, playing 100 songs seems impractical to begin with.
This phone is going to be JUST LIKE the Motorola V3 RAZR (Quad Band, Bluetooth, GPRS, no EDGE) with a few upgrades. It will have a 262K Screen, expanandable memory with a 512 mb card included and of course the iTunes with the 100 song cap. (Apple doesn't want to shoot themselves in the foot). The phone will come bundled with the following accessories: 512MB MircoSD memory card, battery/battery door cover, charger, USB cable, stereo headset, iTunes CD, 3.55 mm headset adapter, iTunes insert, user guide, quick start guide. It is scheduled to be released around Feb 1st.
#22 you just want to dump all your song on the cellphone and then play random, btw even IF you only want to play 100 songs, why don't they ALLOW you to put more ... crapple
Mine has itunes, and it only comes with a 256mb card....
unless that got updated. After a few months of use that is plenty. fun to flash it on the subway (nyc)... since all the geekoids stare. great phone, but really only a different version of the RAZR (plust the itunes component). just a phone peeps... and frankly without a touch screen or keyboard, the uses dwindle.
oh -- and camera is for shizzle too: VGA. c'mon, moto. VGA?
WTF? you give me a phone with upgradeable memory - but the best I can do is micro-sized video and VGA pix? welcome to 2003.
admitting the v3x is pretty big for a razr... I've held one back in Hong Kong. The SLVR is also slight disappointing - I believe it still has that VGA camera when the world's moved onto megapixel cameras, but at least it has transflash. The V3i is much better in that regard.
This is all fine and dandy but what about the razr v3i with itunes? that was confirmend in NOV to have itunes but no word on that yet... the rumor release date now is early feb... HMM... 2 itunes phones comming out in early feb?... also something cut out of steve job's keynote at the last munute because the "product" wasnt ready yet at macworld?... hmm.. special event!!!
The reason why there is a 100 song cap beacasue this phone uses iTunes. Do you think that Apple wants to lose their share over the iPods to a phone. Why would anyone buy a shuffle? Or if the phone was really sucessful and that could support up to a 2 gig limit, no one would buy the iPod Nano. That is the reason there is a 100 song cap. The SLVR's that don't have iTunes don't have the cap on songs.
#41 - It's not Cingular, It's Apple. Just as what was said in post #38. If the world could fit 2gb worth of music on their cell phones, there would be no reason for them to buy iPod shuffles or nanos. Since Apple doesn't want to lose sales of their iPods to a cell phone, they're making a limit on all phones that use their iTunes software.
Enough with Cingular! How about offering the phone through T-Mobile? You know T-Mobile, the other GSM carrier in the States...the company without the stupid 2 year contracts.
#46 - T-Mobile does have 2 year contracts on upgrades now. Also they have you extend your contract whenever you change your plan after 90 days of service or a rate plan change.

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.

Still has the 100 song cap? Why won't they learn?
Hurry up already, I promised my girlfriend one of these for christmas, and it's almost valentines day....

ROKR, SLVR, RAZR... WTF? Dont these scatheads know how to spell?
And to #1: Blame Apple.
Last week I was on the NYC subway and saw someone with the SLVR. I swear it was it...
It's real. I work at RadioShack and we got a stack of flyers today.
I was going to wait for this phone. Took them waaaay too long to get it out. Now I really don't care.
I've had this phone for a liite over month... not bad. No headphone jack is whack, despite including usb headphones and or BT availability...

Forget this, what happened to the HTC Wizard, it was due out 3 months ago
Why doesn't Cingular offer to allow Apple to launch an MVNO using their GSM network...only 100 calls per month.
the dummy also came in(link included below)...alas reading over the training material looks like still no support for bluetooth stereo and the 100 song limit :(
this phone has been out here in the uk since december im not sure if it has itunes though
http://importgsm.com/product.php?productid=103&cat=0&page=3
its been here since december of last year.
FEH! I want the n80.
this is real, we got the same brochure and dummy phone at our store as well. no info on pricing or release date though, i would say first week of feb
Dynamism's been selling European versions of the SLVR for several weeks now, though they don't have the iTunes.
Would one of these phones purchased from the UK work on Cingular in the US if unlocked?
Are they gonna release an L7 (as in the band) edition?

Does this support Push To Talk (PTT?)

When would you listen to them, really?
Why complain just duck tape an ipod nano to the back of that celphone and you got a cool phone with 1000 songs and better batery life

Yes its true. I am an employee with Cingular. The phone is scheduled to be released on Jan. 31st.
#22 I do.

Ill shoot myself if I have to use Motorolas interface.
Now i'm glad i got the Motorola L6. When will they learn that people have more than 100 songs they like!!!

yes

The SLVR should have an USB 2.0 port to make downloading songs a speedy task. My heart is set on a used SE S710a.

This is for real, I've seen the actual flyers. Should easily sell better than the ROKR. (not hard to do)
It's been out in Australia (yes that dry country down south with hopeless broadband)for ages on the Optus network.
here is a link to an independent retailer selling it for $511AUD ($384USD)

#5: It's not Apple's fault. The iPods have no arbitrary, ridiculous song number limit. It must be Cingular.

Better yet, give the RAZR v3i to T-Mobile.

I stopped in to a Cingular store today and they told me that the promo on this phone will happen this Sunday 1/29/06
