Sling gets 46m investment from Echostar, etc.
Not that we were
worried about those guys, but for those interested in the higher level goings on of Sling Media, makers of the Slingbox, they just got a $46.6 million cash infusion from a
number of notable investors, including Mobius, The Hearst Corporation, and Echostar. Yeah, that Echostar, who pumped Archos full of $10 million last
year. You know, we're kind of liking where they're going with
their investments of late (well, most of
them, anyway), and we really hope they're doing what we think they're doing -- namely, you know, enabling some
real-world-useful content delivery mechanisms for their customers.

what happened to their botched merger with direcTv?
>>Is it just me, or does it the word SLING look more like SHAG when you squint a bit?
Well - The upload bandwidth my Slingbox uses is only 256Kbps and I stream at around 240Kbps constantly. I actually watch more tv now than I used to, and mostly via my Slingbox.
Looks like a chocolate bar!
I wonder how forty-six dollar and sixty cents will help their business model?? :P
Ohh. The Slingbox looks realy cool, nice design :)
But I guess that's nothing we will see here in Sweden :/
#1 Haha, yea I thought about that too ;)

Maybe they'll be able to afford the "dot" on the i now...
The design is the one thing I hate about this thing. It looks like 3 oversized keyboard keys. I just don't get it.
And here I thought it looked like something Batman would wear on his utility belt.
I've had the Slingbox since September of last year and think the product has a great design and with new firmware updates recently, I have a very good quality picture output to a 28" widescreen TV. The upload bandwidth my Slingbox uses is only 256Kbps and I stream at around 240Kbps constantly. I actually watch more tv now than I used to, and mostly via my Slingbox.
It's like a bar of platinum, it's BEAUTIFUL... and just about as valuable.
After CEO Joe Guy recieved the $46.6 cash infusion, he was able to eat his first meal in months. "It's been pretty tight around here for a while now, thankfully we found some investors and are now able to eat once again."
:)
What I like is list of Programs available.
Is it just me, or does it the word SLING look more like SHAG when you squint a bit?
My ISP will cap my internet speed if i or anyone else use one of these or any other upload products. They monitor how much traffic and bandwidth each customer uses by a computer. That computer automaticly puts a cap on your connection if you reach a certain upload limit within any monthly use. So having such a devise cripples your internet speeds. And that sucks big time. I have a replaytv here in ny and my father has one in pa and we like to send each other programs when we cant record at our homes. But weve been capped so had to stop. It just plain sucks.
#13, sounds like a sorry ISP, hopefully you are getting it really cheap?
And with a $46.6 cash infusion, I could be an investor for being that cheap, hell I'd double it. So is my $93.2 wanted over at Sling? lol
