SMS, voicemail suicide notes becoming more common

According to John O'Dwyer, an Irish coroner, text messaging and voicemail are becoming more common forms of suicide notes. O'Dwyer, the coroner for south Mayo, relayed this observation at a seminar called "Portrayal of Suicide in the Media," where he also cited growing isolation brought on by wealth and technology as reasons why people feel the need to kill themselves. Also noteworthy was a statistic compiled by Irish Association of Suicidology secretary Dr. John Connolly, which claims that the number of car accidents increases in areas where a suicide has recently been publicized, and actually seems to correlate directly with the amount of publicity generated.
