Introducing Helio's Hero
Helio was determined to show everyone a little love today. So after
months of keeping quiet, Helio finally decided to trot out its cutting-edge handsets. Their flagship phone, the Hero
(which we had word on before
regarding their spring launch), promises to deliver all the EV-DO multimedia you're gonna need. Created by Pantech, its
the first high end device made by the Korean phone firm specifically for the US market. And as a special
post-Valentine's day gift, Helio also announced an exclusive partnership with MySpace to load up its phones with a
mobile-focused MySpace application that will let you keep in touch with your peeps no matter where you are. For now
it's look but don't touch, but you should be able to get your mitts on one of these come spring.

TheWakeUpCall @ Feb 16th 2006 6:26AM
That is really cool, if it came to the UK on PAYG I would probs get one.
TZK @ Feb 16th 2006 7:15AM
Looks-wise, there appears to be nothing special about this phone. Gee, mobile MySpace!
You could always use skweezer - on any phone.
z @ Feb 16th 2006 7:20AM
apart from the fact I find it looks pretty cheaply made (when will we have inox, steel, bronze, real leather, ... to build our phones?), I do believe you might want to brag about your 30'' display without imposing us those HUGE pics... ;-)
Den @ Feb 16th 2006 8:03AM
i like it.
are the pics actual size? ;)
i like the video and music buttons at the top of the screen
Zverg @ Feb 16th 2006 8:29AM
looks really nice, but I would absolutely not buy it because it integrates with MySpace. That place is a child molester paradise. I'll stick to Facebook, where at least I'm protected because only people in higher education can register.
Zverg @ Feb 16th 2006 8:31AM
#7.. up your screen res or something. I'm looking at the pics on my 14" laptop display and they are less than half the height of the screen.
js @ Feb 16th 2006 8:58AM
hmmm looks awfully familiar w/ PSP's GUI...
MinceyFresh @ Feb 16th 2006 11:14AM
Man, I PRAY that Helio/MySpace partnership will live up to everything it promises (and not look like some sort of WAP hell).
If it does, the phone will probably become a hit mostly with all those annoying emo kids, but it will, in my opinion, raise the bar with what standard non-business cell phones should be able to do (in terms of mail/messaging) in the first place.
With this service and the upcoming Yahoo/Cingular phone, it looks like the US actually *might* finally be edging close to what has been standard in South Korea and Japan for the past few years.
Or it'll all just tank and we'll all still be bitching about why our phones can't play more than 100 songs for the next couple years. ;-)
z @ Feb 16th 2006 11:24AM
Well, thanks for the new picts! ;-)

I assume that it is on the Verizon network and not GSM. Too bad. The convergance of video and cell phone in this product looks great.
Guillermo @ Feb 16th 2006 12:30PM
I feel like an uber-dork for getting excited about this, but it seems like a pretty sweet phone. Verizon has always had pretty crappy phones, if they get this it'll be a nice addition to what they've been doing recently.
aenar @ Feb 16th 2006 2:52PM
BORING-from the people that brought you Scientology
sunystory @ Feb 17th 2006 12:54AM
This model looks like the identical one by SKY 3D Game phone. If I remember correctly, it runs resident evil and Ys 6 in their gpang service. The internal memory is large enough to download these files with the fast Ev-Do in Korea. See the link below

This video, though, plays the game running by anycall (samsung) phone. The 3D capability of the phone is identical to the one shown.

If the phone has the same spec (although expected to be degraded), it will certainly have silver nano coating.
This is just shocking that we can finally touch this gadget. Will you buy a psp?

WHEN IS THIS PHONE COMING TO AMERICA??? ANYONE KNOW
aenar @ Mar 5th 2006 11:22AM
Why is everyone so up on this thing? It's a phone with a ripped-off PSP skin. It's not a PSP
Jazz @ Aug 21st 2008 2:38AM
I got this for free with my Helio Ocean, and can change devices on the Helio website. It's definitely worth it! It looks great and is both practical and fun. The only quibbles I have with Helio phones is the low quality on the cameras...but that's the least of my worries! I
tcoulj @ Apr 11th 2006 6:46PM
The devices will be available starting around May 1st. No other company will be using them as they are designed specifically for Helio. No PSP ripoff all software was built from the ground up. Hero comes standard with 70mb built in memory, 2 megapixel camera/video. Stereo speakers, blah, blah, blah...
Myspace Layouts @ Apr 22nd 2006 7:11AM
It's good to see mobile phones getting there act together and teaming up with myspace, as we are all able to do more when we are on the go and myspace is very big with the younger generation which will direct the web in the future.
Jephphriey @ May 5th 2006 7:42PM
If this device had a QWERTY keyboard, it'd be over.
This phone looks incredible.
Alan @ May 14th 2006 9:01PM
