PointyRemote, like VNC for your DS
While we're still struggling a little to figure out how PointyRemote does what it does, won't ever deny the
why in a VNC-like remote desktop control solution for your DS. Apparently the A button zooms your view and you
can use your stylus as an input device, even send text through your handheld. Elegant? Eh, probably not so much as
it could be, but it's a freaking DS, people, learn to love it.

I would buy a DS just for that, That is AMAZING
I have a VNC client for my Palm Zire 72, and I find its handy sometimes... But that's pretty much to shut down windows machines, or to change songs at home via my wireless network.
Imagine the uses of this!
You cold hook up your existing PC to your TV from wherever it is and use it as a Media Centre thing
This is just great !!! It extends so much the functionalities of the DS !!!
I hope stuff like that will appear for the PSP, cause it really starts to be boring :(
Nice application for DS! This could be very handy sometimes. Thanks for useful information.
i was using vnc for my clie ux50 back in the day. very useful for enquing torrents :^P
Is that an application on an actual cartridge? Because i'm a little bit confused right now...?!?
It's a homebrew code, you need some sort of flash cart to actually use it on your DS.
perfect itunes remote for airport express!
That application is out for two months now. And it sucks like hell. You have to refresh picture by hand, and even more - it takes about 50% ( !!! ) of CPU. I recommend using Win2DS instead - more functions, keyboard, mouse & gamepad emulator, all in one.

Regards, MaHe
hector el bambino sux, but u are rigt the psp can do this very easy
If you have set a password on your Palm OS® Garnet or earlier handheld, you must enter the same password on your desktop computer to perform the first HotSync® operation. (Synchronizing a Palm OS Cobalt handheld never prompts you to enter the handheld’s password on the desktop computer.)

So it says in the Palm Desktop help.
Anyway. Has it occured to anybody that NTP or ACCESS may be "Palm's secret third business"?
Nice link MaHe
9. Fanboy much? These are the guys that will go on to create even better apps, try and recognise the dedication instead of saying "this sucks"
#9 and #11, are you just being jealous?
How the heck would you emulate a mouse, keyboard and such things on PSP?! Please cut your crap, this is about DS not how PSP beats DS ...
I think its pretty neat, partially in the fact that getting the DS to do that IS harder than getting the PSP to do that.
And for the comment that the PSP can do that without any software... I'm pretty sure the PSP can't control vnc on a PC without software.
Cool Wallpaper! I love Trivium! I will wait to try it later, I have only had my DS for 2 months now and when the DS lite comes out then I will hack the heck out of my DS!
Haha, ya i'm sure this is awesome on your psp. Oh wait, no it would completly suck, your one screen limits what you see and text input must suck.
Face it.. The DS is better. Better games, better applications, better funtionality.
The PSP is turning into the iPod of portable gaming.. We all know there are far better MP3 players though.
I would control my tablet pc by DS :)
ha ha... limewire
wow, this is actually pretty cool.
#15... Trivium are sweet :)
Im not gona say nething about the psp or the DS... or how which is better cos i CBA -.-
Newho, this will be even cooler when the DSLite comes out (im in the uk.. we get everything last :/)
Well, after all this talk about the PSP and the DS and stylus vs. no stylus, it pretty much guarantees one thing. The next PSP will have a touch screen. Just one more idea Sony still steal from Nintendo. But then again, the next DS i'm sure will have yet another incredible feature that Sony will eventually steal. That's just how it goes. Nintendo comes up with something incredible (d-pad, analog stick, shoulder buttons, rumble, etc.) and everyone else steals it.
20. Its quite clear you know absoulutly nothing, because nintendo did not invent A SINGLE thing you mentioned. They merely standarised them on home consoles.
Some nintendo fanboys need to get there facts straight. Wait, all of them.
sorry I meant number 21.
I can prove Nintendo sucks with one word:
Gamecube.
Anyone else notice that this thing is changing all the blue to orange?
And...I don't care if you can VNC on the PSP or the DS, it's completely useless on both unless you're using a TV out. I mean, with a screen that small, there's not a whole hell of a lot you can do.
I never used the word invent did I? I'm perfectly aware that there were analog joysticks well before Nintendo stuck them on console controllers.
There was online gaming well before Xbox live, Microsoft just did a great job of putting on a console.
And I also never said I was a Nintendo fanboy, I don't even own a DS. I simply appreciate good design over raw power. This doesn't change the fact that Sony and Microsoft will continue to take ideas from Nintendo consoles and make them their own. Raw computing power and giant power bricks are NOT ideas.
And the Gamecube didn't suck as a piece of hardware, it was small, efficient, and a great piece of engineering. It's 3rd party support sucked terribly, which made for a poor selection of games.
I Have the same wallpaper!
"That's just how it goes. Nintendo comes up with something incredible "
This is quoted from you loban. So yes you never said INVENT but you said "comes up with". In the context of what you wrote its quite clear you meant they created it.
And the gamecube was rubbish, I dont care much for graphichs and multemidia features on consoles but for gaming that console was 2nd worst only to the philips cd-i. And the third party support wont get better on rev.
Most of all this feature would be pointeless on any machine.
What? The Gamecube was/is great. I played it way more than my Xbox. Nowhere near as much as my PS2, but I expect the GC will continue to get play after the others get dusty because the GC has so many great multiplayer/party type games that people love to play when they come over. Mario Kart is great with a few friends and a few beers, for example, and it will still be fun even after I move up to next gen gaming.
It's all about games, ultimately. PS2 had the most games I liked, then Gamecube, then Xbox. If you don't like the more casual-play type Nintendo games, then I can see giving Nintendo a pass.
George,
He meant that Nintendo "came up" with the idea of sticking those things on consoles before the others followed, nothing wrong with them being the leaders concept wise. You don't have to be bitter.
Firstly, this is about the DS and not about comparing it to the PSP or any other console. Knock it off :)
Secondly, and this is aimed most at #27, nobody can say this wouldn't be useful on -any- machine. For some of us it's uber handy, if we have the need for an easy way to start/stop processes (anything from downloads to changing settings to changing songs for Airport Express!). Just because it's not useful to you doesn't mean no one will need it.
And no matter what, you gotta appreciate the person that did this and their dedication to trying to make such a cool idea work. Lots of people have interesting thoughts like this, but few really work to make it happen. I think this idea is totally rad, and it adds to the reasons why I want a DS :)
To #25 - Um, very obviously it's -not- turning all the blue to orange. If it were, the whole entire wallpaper in the upper screen would be orange... and if you look at the firefox icon in the lower screen, it's go its blue in the right place :) No worries.
Does anyone else think it is absolutely rediculous that this guy has well over 100 desktop icons? Buddy...use the start menu!
Nice! Now gimme DS Lite and this..
I see few idiots everytime there's an article about either DS or PSP-
"My PSP can do this without any stinky softwarez.
Can your DS do that morons.
Viva reggaeton y puerto rico
Hector el father lives!"
(Hector, stop disgracing your country with your stupidity and stay in school- My DS has touch screen function. Can your PSP do that morons? now, how does that feel?)
or
DS is outselling PSP in Japan in both hard/software;
PSP has sucky game selection, ha!
(please, PSP took a big chunk out of portable gaming share- Let see if your DS can run so many emulators with ease with crisp graphic)
Seriously, just cut the crap and be more constructive/reasonable next time.
awesome except for that horrible trivium wallpaper. blah metal.
hey can someone dumb down how to actually put this into action because i got a DS for Christmas like last year and i havent used it much because i dont know how to do any of this....and what all exactly does this do? sorry imnot so good with computers :-)
Anyone notice how there is a flashing thing in the task bar on the pc but its not on the DS.
please do not let hector's comments reflect puerto ricans.....i am puerto rican, went there this past weekend and it was beautiful. An amazing experience i must say....and not all puerto ricans are ignorant. I honestly cannot stand reggaeton and i still love my island and the people that live there.
Neither the PSP nor the DS can do this out of the box. On the PSP, IF it can do this, you'd need homebrew, which requires a lower firmware version (1.5, but maybe up to 2.0 now).
I own both a DS and a PSP. I use my PSP for watching the occasional movie, surf the net (really freaking slowly), and not much else. The DS is my gaming handheld, and I'll be getting the DS Lite too. And Puerto Rico kicks ass.
Haha, look at the zoomed up pic... theres SCAR 2.03 a tool for the game "Runescape" (It's used to "cheat" in the game)
"Anyone notice how there is a flashing thing in the task bar on the pc but its not on the DS."
The DS refresh rate is very poor at the moment. The PointyRemote program is not the best VNC right now. The WiFi drivers are still in their beta stages, so I don't think anything is running smoothly just yet.

Hi! That is my image :)
The reason for flash taskbar on comp and not on ds is because the ds hadnt refreshed.. can I have credit? (This image is actually copyrighted... =/)
This is a late comment, Iknow.. but:
Some people didn't use there brains when looking at the photo.
The reason the orange button wasnt blinking at the bottom of the screen because it is a temely process to update the photo on the DS
The reason why theres orange on the screen is because that is the reflection from this guy's lamp, NOT a bug is the program.
ENOUGH of the PSP vs. NDS fight! these 2 handhelds are very different from eachother, this is like trying to compare the jobs of a laptop computer with the jobs of a field mouse (example :? )
My two cents,
-mm3guy
How do u do that i got a ds i REALLY want to know
