iGame supposedly in April EGM scan
To everyone who sent in the iGame,
At the risk -- however slight -- of being completely wrong, you don't honestly believe Apple's going to release a portable gaming console, do you? And that according to this supposed leaked scan from the April issue of EGM (April, people, April!), it'd be called iGame, look like this, have those buttons, feature the now-extinct remote connector, and download games from the ITMS? Sorry, we're calling BS on this one, so now that you know where we stand you can all stop tipping us on it.
Love, Engadget

Of course it is a fake. It is the EGM April Fool's joke.
You guys are right... big big big BS!!
The fact that its fake didn't keep you from posting this as "news" huh?
This site seems to be dying a slow death from Apple product photoshop overload.
I dunno. I would have said the same thing about the iPod Hi-Fi and the new mac mini with onboard video. Maybe they're just getting back into the habit of the old OS 9 days, when they just produced crappy hardware and software.
Also note that the logo on that screen is about a 3 year old treatment. That's the version from the Quicksilver G4 era. The logo treatment they use now is silver and flat.
And they'd never make it that big.
Maybe just maybe an april fools joke!!!!
Yeah, definitely an April Fool's joke. They generally don't mark the articles in any way to signify that. There's a few major signs, other than the obvious, one being that Call of Duty 3 is no where close to being ready. That, and the picture doesn't look like an Apple product. Too many seams and the like.
Then again, anyone reading Engadget should be smart enough to realize that it's fake without me pointing out the details.
I would dis-own Apple. haha... that looks like something from 1997.
April Fools. haha.
EGM is known for doing awesome april fools jokes, but if you have ever been a subscriber, its hard to fall for them again.
appearantly the guy that posted these pics has never been a subscriber.
nice try EGM.
(but it would be cool if an iGame EVENTUALLY happens)
Yea, this is EGM's april fools joke they do every year. I like the one they did along time ago about how to get Shen Long in Street Fighter 2. I know alot of people that tried that for months and just would not belive it was a joke.
I remember when they announced "sheng long" in sf in 1995 was it? and then being able to play as simon belmont in konamis tmnt game? boy do they know how to break the heart of a teenage geek.
Also, if you make that gesture while playing a video game you deserve to get slapped in the head. I'm just sayin' ...

this one time....at band camp...i heard about this thing called igame...
First of all, for all you morons out there, the poster never said that he thought it was real. He said the ARTICLE was real. Maybe the article has a photoshop pic, but the content is real. Who knows? I personally didn't think the nintendo entertainment system controller was going to make a comeback
I remember when EGM got me back in the 90s and said you could play Sheng Long in Street Fighter 2: CE. Of course it was in their April Issue.
Yeah, i really liked the EGM prank a long time ago when they said you can unlock Sonic and Tails in Super Smash Bros. Melee. I knew it was fake, but the screenshots that they doctored up were actually pretty convincing and were a professional fake. Of course, you can't help but to imagine how cool it would have been to have Sonic and Tails in that game.
Oddly enough, it wouldn't be the first time Apple tried the gaming market.
Apple Pippen anyone?
Here's a link to a recent ebay auction for a Pippen

i don't buy it, and not only do i not buy it, but i won't buy it if they do come out with it... egm is either gunna look like geniuses or dummies come this e3...
Today is March 9th.
J, first: I didn't post it as "news." How does this at all present itself like news? It's even signed "Love, Engadget." Second: ever hear of debunking rumors? Check yaself.
Best, Ryan
Joke or not, "something" along these lines would be PERFECT. You would have you much, a larger & widescreen display for video, then why not throw in controls that could also be used for games. Now if you throw WiFi and BT in there. Top it off with a 100GB HD and price it at $499 or under and you've got a killer product. Now if they could only cellphone and a slide out keyboard it would have everything. Just a thought.
I just feel sorry for the silhouette having a fit playing it.
I would not call that a "supposed leaked scan". I've had my April digital edition since 3/7 (come on, all magazines come out about a month in advance). And yep, it is there on page 32.
Yep, and I'm glad this guy and everyone else who posted it ruined it for the subscribers...
"Any cheats for SuperBreakout?"
"YEAH! Menu, Menu, Menu, Rewind!"
EGM always, always does an April Fool's joke in the April issue. Usually it is not this large, though. Last year it was that pre-ordering Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess would get you a free bonus of a realistic-looking version of The Wind Waker. A couple of years more back, it was that Sonic and Knuckles could be unlocked in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
The most telling things to look for in this case is that: 1) It's fugly; 2) the bottom is showing is the old iPod (3G - 4G) remote port next to the headphone port; 3) it has 3G-style buttons and no iPod scroll pad.
It's still funny, though. EGM is one of the few magazines I still subscribe to and this is something to look forward to. :)
Most likely an April fools joke. Look at the third column: "... trasfers to your iGame upon synchronization via FireWire or USB 2.0 cable."
I thought Apple was moving away from FireWire? Didn't they remove FireWire compatibility with the 5th generation iPods?
Ryan: Illegitimi non carborundum. Blog comments attract idiots like fire does moths, unfortunately. You guys run a great blog, and I for one appreciate seeing silly rumours like this debunked publically. Not to mention I'm sure you were completely swamped in tippers who didn't stop to think about April holidays. (Or did, and just decided to be annoying.)
gaming for the masses?.....like it doesn't already exist
im sorry, apple isnt exactly in the core (pun intended) of the gaming industry. take a look at their list of games released for osx, its not much longer then a page at least.
None of you noticed the "Press 'Start'"? Heh.
Yeah EGM always does an april fools joke, its fake 100% for sure. (Remeber last year? If you pre order Twilight Princess you get a re-done wind waker with the new graphics.)
I really have to give some credit to EGM, they have the best April Fool's jokes I've ever seen.
For all of you who wipe a tear from your eye, screaming "this isn't news!": when has Engadget solely been about news?
I don't see you complaining in the comments of the competitions and giveaways.
Get over it and go cry on /.
Any other april fool's jokes in the issue?
April's issue of EGM is notorious for being FILLED with April Fools Jokes. Besides, Apple would release a PDA long before a portable game system.
"Besides, Apple would release a PDA long before a portable game system."
agreed. the Newton was released in 1993. while the Pippin was a full 3 years later in the US.
oh wait... you mean... again?
"Man I remember Sheng Long...do you guys remember Animalities in Mortal Kombat II?? I practically spent all of my life savings trying to find those moves out.
"
Animailities in MK aren't real? I'm really serious hurt right now. No Seriously, my heart dropped when you said that. So many years wasted....
Thumbpad is on the wrong side.
I thought the funniest April Fools' Joke was the one a few years ago where they listed a really complicated cheat to unlock nude players in DOA Volleyball. I think a lot of people tried that one despite the fact it was obviously a joke...
Jobs can use it while he is on his i-crapper...
OMG IM SO EXCITED ( i dont think egm would lie like that) I cant wait till i can play pon or break out while i wacth videos Itunes has picked for me and bad quality music from Ituens network. Hoohah Hooray!
every one knows apple sucks at gaming why would they release a portable game device... BS!
All you have to do is look closely at the music store. A Cabbage Patch Kids game? Come on. They just threw that in so after you realized it was fake you could laugh at yourself for being dumb. And the name, iGame. Apple doesn't name things based on what they do. The iMusic? The iDownloader Music Store? You would look pretty cool carrying a white floppy disk with a screen though.
Whoa! At 1st I thought this was real because I didn't know it was the April issue, but now that I realize it this must be the April Fool's prank.
I didnt know this was Aprils Issue, I got an EGM subscription as a christmas present this year first time ive ever really ever looked at em. But I do know they are famous for their gags whenever and even more show on april. But I had a feeling this was fake. Though I wish it was true. What tipped me off is when they said it was going to play some old GBA games.
Also note the massive amount of pc games available to mac users. Rock-on Apple.
