Verizon to Vodafone: gimme my equity

verizon dude

Not a whole lot of news in this news as it was bound to happen sooner or later (in addition to having been rumored to have happened in the past), but apparently Verizon Wireless has officially unofficially proposed to Vodafone buying out their 45% stake in the business for a supposed 40 billion dollars. Sound like a lot? Well, it is. Especially considering that while AT&T bought BellSouth's 40% interest in Cingular, they also got the whole rest of BellSouth along with the deal. But with Vodafone on the ropes in Japan, is an American pullout at all in the cards as well? We're gonna vote probably not -- they gotta be making some serious cash on Verizon, which is probably why Verizon wants to buy 'em out. Well, that and maybe they got sole-ownership-jealousy over Cingular, who knows.
