DS dresses up like an NES

What is it about that certain black, grey, and red color scheme that just seems to give gadgets more street cred? Nintendo-fanantic Kotami (whom you may remember from the NEStation mod) is back with a new, old-school take on the DS that faithfully represents the original NES's design scheme, right down to the button coloring, accent bars, and spot-on fonts. No functional changes here, just a nice paint job (what'd you expect him to do, rig it to actually control the 8-bit system?), but with Nintendo seemingly down with similar retro-styling for their products, this is one mod that may actually go commercial someday.

Why? What is the point of this? It's ugly. And frankly, I don't see what the obsession is with the old NES...the graphics sucked and the games lacked in pretty much every category know to man.

Oh, and the DS sucks anyway.

Pretty cool. I bought the NES-styled GBA SP a while back, but only because I didn't already have one (I just had the original GBA, which doesn't have a backlit screen). I do, however, have a DS, so I think I'll pass this one up.

Cameron, get off this site now, you don't deserve to be reading a good blog like this. The NES was a huge evolutionary step in video games. A lot of the games might stand up to criticism now, but they were made like 15-20 years ago and the graphics were amazing for the time period... Before you post anything again, please learn something about the history of technology and videogame history... Ignorant kids...

Rivendale hit it on the nose. If you ever go back and actually play Nintendo games, you'll see why games today have developed into what they are now. Nintendo, with the exception of Atari and Genesis, put video games on a whole new level and jump-started the entertainment world of video games, today.

I have a feeling Camoron has never really appreciated video games before...

which have practicly no gameplay at all.

Thats what I like about these smaller units , since they dont have so much 3D Hardware they focus on the gameplay more, I think the older Generation will take to this more than the younger, and yes the design here is more Retro Styled and very Nostalgic.

pretty rad, but i'll wait until an official version of the DS Lite with NES styling comes out. The GBA SP NES version is great, and totally accurate, even down to the slightly rough texture of the black part of the controller area. besides, it looks better than those cheapass looking blue ones.

What annoys me with you guys is the way if anybody makes a mistake, you joke about them being kids. I'm fourteen, and I'm pretty sure I have equal knowledge in gaming to many of you 'clever' adults. Mojo, it's called an Emulator. They have made them for almost all systems that are out today.
