Dell's D620 pops in and out
We didn't get a good look at
Laptop's review of Dell's forthcoming D620 before their site went down or they pulled the article (we don't know
which), but we did snag some sweet shots of the device, and we're left hopeful that the Core Duo version of their
all-work-and-no-play flagship Latitude will have shed some inches around the waist and pounds off the scale.

Another clue:
What is the difference between:

Just love google, this guy has problems with his D620 prototype:

"their", not "there". -2pts.
I'm usually a fan of Dell laptops but this one looks tired and dated. The silver keyboard surround looks tacky and it looks like Dell had a bad day when designing this.
MarcoEQ:
This is a business laptop, they're supposed to look like that. These are made for IT departments who choose what to buy based on function, not form.
They have already pulled the pix.
It is interesting that they are using IBM's signature red scrolly button on their laptops. Of course, they changed the color. I would have thought there would be patents on that. Guess not.

What is the weight difference from the D610? Is it significantly lighter?
Hey how about the new D820 while we're at it..here ya guys go...

hey #9 unfortunately it's the exact same weight
Same old boring Dell. Can't wait to see them come into my repair line at Best Buy so my Geek Squad friends and I can try to fix them.
Any new info on the Precision M90? It was rumored on here to be released last week?
Yeah, nothing about the M90 has turned up yet...
I like the blue accents. It's a slight branding gesture, but it works pretty well in my eyes.
Good thing its black! Im using Latitude D600 and on my palm rest, the silver color fades because i sweat alot with the heat coming from the harddrive.
Hey Belly, want to say the same thing about IBM and HP's business laptops as well? People who buy business laptops don't want fancy looking chrome and bling-bling LEDs, they want a nice, clean looking machine that is functional.
This is what it is, Dell's business line of laptops that are available in several variations (high to low end, lightweight to heavy) and usually offer long lifecycles. You would choose a Latitude if you want to standardize on a laptop for your company and not have the model change frequently. They're not generally exotic, and do not come pre-installed with a bunch of software, but you can certain 'add' anything for an additional fee.
The IBM like track point control (although I'm sure Dell has another name for it) has been available in Dell laptops for years, although Dell offers both that and a touch pad. Toshiba comes to mind as also offering track point control.
This newer model is not THAT much different than the previous model, with the exception of newer processor choices, newer options, and I believe a different case.
We've used Dell laptops for a while now, and prior to that IBM ThinkPad laptops, and I can atest, the Dell Latitude line is SOLID.
We tried using Sony laptops, but they kept discontinuing models every few months, and we ended up with users that have highly dissimiliar models. It's a pain to support 3-4 different models that were all released in the same year.
#8, the solo shot has a fingerprint reader between the left and right touchpad buttons, the side-by-side photo of the putative D620 does not. Are these production machines? Perhaps the fingerprint reader is optional?
Seems like the good old cache is up:

not just for IT, business...my school gives these to incoming freshman and rising juniors. bastards, they update their computer right before i freaking graduate. oh well, i use a PowerBook anyway and would have ebay'd the Dell regardless.
The German Dell webpage has a fact sheet for the D620:

I do like the "acupoint" "stick" myself, my favorite mouse controller on a laptop, I wish all companies used it, i did not know Dell was still using it... anyone know of any other companies that have this type of mouse controller? I know Sony has it on a couple of laptops... so that's IBM, Dell, Sony, any others?
BTW: Fujitsu & HP have laptops with two HDs in them, backup HD in the same PC, gotta love it!
I wish you could still get trackball laptops. Ever used one of those? I used an old P1 Dell laptop with one, loved it (and that's saying a lot because it was already obsolete when I was using it).
i don't know if this is a copy/paste of the review that was taken down, but it does give the best insight into the new machine that i have found to date:

It is really a shit that Dell copes the IBM's key board.
Who said the following???
"We've used Dell laptops for a while now, and prior to that IBM ThinkPad laptops, and I can atest, the Dell Latitude line is SOLID."
I thought you must be Dell sales representative.
What is Dell's computer, what is Dell's poor quality? For Business? Really Funny!!!
IBM is the good for business, Sony and Apple are good for fasion, but Delll ????? Dell ??? I will never ever buy it however cheap it is!!!
Yea, you are right. Just a simply copy of IBM key board. Dell is nothing, poor quality with so called "low price". My friend bought a Dell laptop in HK 1 years ago, which gave him a terrible experience. So he finally changed to IBM ThinkPad.
And you call yourselves geeks..
Im shocked at you people, not a kind word at all for dell products. Complain Complain Complain.. OH IBM TOUCH PAD! Please, Why so bitter? Cant we afford one fully decked out? I've been using mine for some time now, and I have nothing bad to say about it. Its a great notebook, and at 2.0ghz it by far out performs my 2.4ghz desktop. The wi-fi gets great signal strength, the bluetooth comes preinstalled with the wildcomm drivers. I've owned, Fujitsu, toshiba, ibm, hp, compaq and alien systems and I and very happy to say the D620 is the best notebook i've ever owned. You wanna bash a product, bash compaq. That cheap plastic crap and their video cards that over heat the motherboard and cause constant lockups. THATS WHO NEEDS THE LYNCH MOB! Leave the 620 alone.
Dell is preparing to offer this with Ubuntu Linux preinstalled.
