Uniden's 5 megapixel crapcam
Oh, we have no
doubt that Uniden's €99 5 megapixel digital crapcam is some chintzy Chinese rebadge snagged to make 'em a few bucks
on the side, but you've got to love 'em for trying. What's scarier is there are a lot of people who're probably gonna
run out and buy one of these things. Don't say we didn't warn you, granma! Despite what Uniden might whisper sweetly,
in CE you often do get what you pay for.

It's too bad it's a hunk o' junk, it looks pretty cool.
Over here in Germany you can get 5MP Kodak for 150 from retailers.
Thou I normally do not expect much even from brand cheap camera.
What's wrong with this digital camera?
I'm surprised to not find a link to another Engadget post within this entry and the obligatory Engadget keyword search links.
It looks better than a lot of other expensive cameras.

looks better, #3? I hope you are joking.
Its quite iritating how megapixel ratings have become buzzwords for performance..just like intel's mythical gigahertz ratings (even in them, atleast there was comparison with other intel processors)
I still use my old 2 mpxl camera, whic i prefer 100x over my sony k750's camera, with the same megapixel rating. And k750 is excellent for a phone cam.
Optics matter. image processing circuitry matters. mexapixels come below many other factors in cameras..
#4: I would agree with #3, except it looks more fancier than probably does the work. I expect to see some kind of review or link.. OR SOMETHING! There's nothing on this article besides saying its crap. Can someone say why?? I don't do too much with cameras, so often just like everybody's horrible mistake in picking Intel over AMD because of the higher clock speeds (yet horrible performance), I would go with a higher megapixel. But, of course, I look at reviews and do lots of research before I buy any kind of technology I don't do anything about. I wouldn't jump the gun to buy one of these just because it says 5.1 megapixels.
So I ask.. where is an article or comparison where I can see a difference between this and other cameras? (even 2 megapixel cameras).
hmm looks like a cheap ripoff of my Canon PowerShot S80. bastards
guys, who names a camera the CrapCam unless its an April Fools Day joke?
you've all been taken.

I believe the bashing is directed more generally at Uniden, and it's more than deserved given their history. Uniden is probably best known (in the US) for marketing cheap consumer electronics like hair dryers cordless phones. I've seen some of their WiFi adapters on eBay recently. Their products are uniformly plasticky and cheap. I'm sure the camera will be no different, but I don't think Engadget's bashing will hurt them one bit.
"7. guys, who names a camera the CrapCam unless its an April Fools Day joke?

Are you functionally retarded?

Who names themselves lefty.crups unless they think that April fools is on March 31st? what a turdface
Many cheaper Chinese digital cameras here that are perfectly OK for the non-brand-snobs.

#3 - looks better??? I hate it how people buy crappy cheap cameras because of what they look like! A camera may look good on the outside, but on the inside it's a heap of junk that will give you nothing but poor quality photos! And about April Fools Day, well this could be an EARLY April Fools trick. The camera doesnt even have Uniden branding on it. I'm sure it would probably say Uniden on the front. i think it's just a picture of a Go-Lo camera.

Its not called crapcam. Engadget gave it that nickname! Also its not that cheap either. Rememeber 99 Euros. Multiply that by 1.2114 and you get dollars (about $120). That is definite not cheap. I can find prettty good cameras that are last generation models at that price.
$120 - that IS cheap
Why is everyone giving #3 such a hard time? Haven't you heard the phrase "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"?
The simple fact of the matter is that this camera has an optical zoom, and 5.1 megapixels. Even if it is a rebadge, it surely can't be that bad - that is, not any worse than any other low budget point and shoot from canon or nikon. In fact, without knowing any of the additional functions of the camera (video modes, etc), we wouldn't know if it is a BETTER buy!
The reply I find most amusing is #1, who makes himself out to be a man who lets blogs do the thinking for him. His first statement is his disappointment that the camera is just junk, purely because of the *cough*lack of*cough* content in this review.
120 $.....u think thats expensive 15 ? You probably buy used underwear at the dollar store dont you!no matter the MgPix its still all about optics and thats why the traditional camera makers are still putting out the best cAMS AND LENSES IN slrS. pOINT AND SHOOT R FOR GRAM AND GRAM ON THEIR big trip to mexico.oops cap lock.buying a camera now is the same as 5 or 10 yrs ago its about user control optics case materials and electronic control...oh and those annoying little things like asa , iso , shutter speed , f stop....but then from the comments here im sure those are just funny words to most of you.
Consumer electronics at wholesale price: http://www.mycellbay.com/
So far as I know, the best wholesale source is http://www.rightwholesale.com, they wholesale clip MP3 players only at $8.99 each!
I own this camera. It looks cheap on the outside but it takes good quality photos! And the best part here, it carries two "AA batteries". It's a 5.1MP and im pretty sure it's enough... carries a 3x optical zoom and really helps too... it has a 2.5 inch LCD monitor, and you can place this on a tripod. Good for city light captures. and a lot of scenes inside the camera. And another comment Dan, the camera does have a Uniden brand on it.. it's located on top of the camera with the model number UDC-5M.
