Dell's 2007WFP 20-inch widescreen now available
The
new 2007WFP 20-incher from Dell has
already made it to Dell's support site, so the specs are nothing new, but the display is now for sale in their online
store, just in case mere availability was all that was holding back. The 1680 x 1050 widescreen LCD display goes for a
fairly reasonable $529, and still has that 800:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness, and 16ms response time we
mentioned last time.

Where's the HDMI/HDCP?
I decided between this monitor and the new Samsung 215TW this weekend.
The Samsung 215TW is superior in most aspects and is only $20 more. It was an easy decision to make.
I love the OS X looking desktop image on this dell.
Dell will have this thing rebated for under $400 soon
Thats what I was thinking too, Jerry. Going to suck to buy a new monitor this year without HDMI and have Vista downres the signal next year.
Extreme Tech has a 3-way test of new 20” displays up this morning, the Dell comes out the clear winner.

I considered buying this recently, then i found a 19" widescreen LCD from Acer, it's nowhere near in terms of quality but it's really not bad for half the price.
The whole thing was £178 including delivery and tax and the Dell is £330. Still it does look nice.
from extremetech's review: "but the 2007WFP offers HDCP over DVI, which makes it ready for Windows Vista HD-DVD and other set-top box connections."
Thanks for the tip Franko. Now I just need to wait for the inevitable sale!
and if they copy the osx desktop wallpaper theyll sell lots :s
Why don't these lcd displays do 1920x1200 like the small Dell laptops? Instead you have to get a 24in. What a crock.
The old 2005FPW had terrible backlight leakage. If this is fixed in this new version it might be worth upgrading. Or perhaps they will give you this one on a warranty swap.
The 2007FP, the 1600x1200 standard aspect ratio version, is also available at the same price.
"1. Where's the HDMI/HDCP?"
From the Article:
"Toss in HDCP support for Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, and you've got a monitor that's ready to handle Windows Vista, too."
Someone already mentioned the bad backlight leakage on the 2005FPW. Does anyone else know what the difference is between the 2007WFP and the 2005FPW (aside from the obviously different number and letter combination)? I already have a 2005FPW and the backlight leakage doesn't really bother me all that much; I would definitely buy another 2005FPW if this new model forces prices lower.
Isn't the 16ms response time a little on the weak side for a $500 plus lcd? Just wondering, not flaming.
come on 2407WFP... Dell just seems to be torturing everyone outside of Japan wanting to get one.
11. I completely agree. What's the point of a 20" widescreen if it doesnt support 1920x1200??

And you paid less because of the resolution. Your 19" screen has 1280x1024 resolution, whereas this Dell has 1680x1050 with about the same amount of screen real estate (do the math - it's 20" diagonal vs. 19, but with a 16x10 aspect ratio vs. 4x3). Higher density screens cost more, and yes, some people do need them.
I wouldn't want 1680x1050 resolution on a 15.4" laptop, but in a 20" monitor anything less is just way too chunky.
"17. come on 2407WFP... Dell just seems to be torturing everyone outside of Japan wanting to get one."
Tell me about it! Jesus! Two weeks ago I was all ready to buy a 2405fpw and then the other day, right before the funds for such a puchase come through, I pick up on all this hype about the 2407fpw. Of course now I'm not willing to settle for the old model.
Come on Dell, push that baby out so I can live again.
The only thing that kinda sucks is the refresh rate.
my screen is 16x10 (hense the "widescreen" in my last comment)
It's only got resolution of 1440x900 but for someone who uses 1600x1200 on a 4:3 19" normally I don't find it too bad.
I know it's far from the greatest monitor on earth but it is incredible value and the image is great.

The problem with the Acer is it doesn't have a DVI input. VGA is probably the difference in screen quality you mention.
The 2007FP is out, too... I wonder how long til a review of that.
Dual 2007FP's or dual Samsung 204B's are extremely tempting right now. Then again I keep having attacks of geek lust whenever I see a 2405FPW...

and the failure to be a smartass award goes to Jeff
the 19 inch widescreen has a 1440x900 resolution
but if it was 19 inch with a 1280x1024 resolution it would be 5:4 ratio not 4:3
CNET has had both the 20-inchers reviewed for almost a week now. They seemed to fare above average.
I just bought the 2005FP for under $400 from Dell. I don't see anything new thats worth $200 more. Someone point out something that would want me to upgrade, because the look makes it take up more space based on the stand. It also looks unbalanced.
