Elect me, your next cellphone's free!

We've heard of some pretty whack campaign platforms in our day (social security reform? Medicare reform? yeah, right, everything's just fine.), but we're thinking we could really get behind E. K. R. Kuppam's angle in his run for Assembly elections in the Union Territory of India. The independent candidate, hailing from Muthialpet, is promising his constituents free cellphones if he's voted into office -- think of it as cell-barrel politics. Other grandiose claims made by the independent in running: "conversion of all huts into concrete structures, taking care of elderly people, and promoting sports activities." If only it were that simple to rein in votes, eh?
