Nintendo to announce DS Lite pricing/release deets on Thursday?
So we don't actually have any new information on the U.S. pricing and release date of Nintendo's DS Lite; rather we're simply here to pass on the fact that these
important details will supposedly be available on Thursday. Our hot sister blog Joystiq is reporting that a recent 1UP
podcast revealed both the May 4th announcement as well as the actual pricing/launch info, but the latter deets were
bleeped out in order to conform with pesky embargoes and non-disclosure agreements. You can be sure that we'll be on
high alert later this week to bring you all the info as soon as it's available, and remember, the sooner you start
standing in line for your new DS, the sooner we can post amusing pics of people suffering for their
hobby.

Excuse me for my terrible grammar @ May 1st 2006 5:25PM
I bet it's $149.99 :D
Abi @ May 1st 2006 5:31PM
Yeh it will be $150 in the UK and at least $200 in Europe. We always have to pay 25-40% (minimum!) more in the UK despite having 17.5% tax
Original DS was around $200 too
Lane @ May 1st 2006 5:38PM
Hmm....DS Lite, a name they didn't screw up.
Adebayor @ May 1st 2006 5:38PM
When Xbox 360 was released in the UK one of my friends preordered it and then queued up in the wee hours to collect it which I thought was a bit odd. Not as odd as the guy he met there who was 'waiting for PS3' but just wanted to 'soak up the atmosphere'.....
Abi @ May 1st 2006 5:41PM
I meant $150 in US!
idude135 @ May 1st 2006 5:46PM
As long as they don't change the name to GameBoy Cooch.
Alex Franklin @ May 1st 2006 5:53PM
yes im definatly gettin one
weatherman @ May 1st 2006 5:54PM
I think $179. The demand is high enough to warrant it, and the price for the DS Lite in Japan is higher than the original DS was there, so I'd think that price is going to be passed on to the US. It'll drop by T-Day of course, but for now I think people will have to pay a premium.
ipodman @ May 1st 2006 6:42PM
Sweet! Hope it comes out soon.
Justin @ May 1st 2006 6:45PM
My guess is that the DS lite will be $129.99 US, and the Original DS will drop to $99.98 US so that Nintendo can clear out remaining inventory and make room for Wii.
Balls @ May 1st 2006 7:27PM
Dunno.
If you *REALLY* want one, you can pick one up for $199.99 plus shipping, from Lik-Sang.
It's 110V so no go for the EU folks :(
Santiago @ May 1st 2006 7:48PM
perfect timing... i was going to hold out until New Super Mario came out anyway
Santiago @ May 1st 2006 7:50PM
errr.... i meant perfect timing if it comes out soon. i guess i can wait if i have to, but i might have to hold my breath until i turn red and stomp my feet some.
h0mi @ May 1st 2006 8:05PM
No way this sells for more than $150.
Babbsy @ May 1st 2006 8:36PM
great zombie jesus, there arnt any Wii puns in this nintendo post....may they actually blow over before E3???
MadaMadaDane @ May 1st 2006 9:18PM
I think I'm gonna be the "I can't stand 'deets'" troll.
In order to cross the Deets bridge you will be required to pay with the blood of your firstborn. Or else be forced to read your own headlines aloud to the third-grade teacher whose respect you wanted most as a ten-year old boy, and feel the shimmering burn of shame pass over your body as her face contorts into a withdrawn and restrained look of despair.
But seriously, knock it off. The 'word' 'deets' singlehandedly reduces the collective and individual value of every real word in the English language.
MasterWii @ May 1st 2006 10:32PM
Well, I will add this toy to my collection.
I just hope they make a matte black one. I hate the glossy models that collect fingerprints like crazy.
sodakar @ May 2nd 2006 4:10AM
I was in Japan mid-April, and when I asked at a popular electronics store (Yodobashi Camera) if I could get a DSLite, they laughed.
They get stock once a week, and the 50~100 they get is sold by a raffle system, with up to 1000 people lining up. At that point, it was 1.5 months after launch.
As for price, 16,800 yen is ~$149... Nintendo tends to be pretty good about keeping the price the same, so...
Abi @ May 2nd 2006 6:13AM
Nintendo will price it at $130-$150 but it wont take retailers long to notice the demand and hike the price up to $200
daaper @ May 2nd 2006 8:15AM
since no one else said anything, I'll ask....did you just call your sister "hot"?
Princess Zelda @ May 2nd 2006 10:24AM
June 21-$149.99 US
The first day of summer.
gspot @ May 2nd 2006 11:01AM
My gf got me one for my birthday a couple of weeks ago and at $150, it would definitly be worth it.
hoob @ May 2nd 2006 1:34PM
There's no way it'll sell for under $150. I see the original DS staying at $129 and the Lite going in at $150 to $179. While the Micro slowly decreases in price.
nutnics @ May 2nd 2006 1:47PM
Wiiiii!!!!!!!, check out the damage at . . . http://usaoneup.ytmnd.com/
ben @ May 2nd 2006 2:22PM
I be they will name it the "nintendo little wii."
eCom @ May 3rd 2006 4:56AM
yeah they did.
they bleeped out the actual DS Lite release date but they missed the mark when they tried to bleep out the date at which the release and price will be announced: May 4th.
gba @ May 4th 2006 2:31PM
Why are EU and UK prices always higher than the US price when most of the people in US earn more than Europeans doing the same job?
