Among Pioneer's other offerings this week were their new
PureVision plasmas, a trio of plasmas with dual HDMI inputs, NTSC and ATSC tuners, as well as
CableCARD. They're all XGA resolution, meaning the 1080p signal they all accept will be downscaled to native resolution on the 42-inch PDP-4270HD, 50-inch PDP-5070HD and 60-inch PDP-6070HD, which will run you $3,500 and $4,500 and $7,500, respectively, when launched.

So are they 1080p or not?
GhostDoggy @ Jun 9th 2006 11:46AM
Not. This got posted earlier, and then moved to HD Beat. See the comments there, which are NOT.

Prices are pretty good. 60 inch Plasmas were 10k last year, and 12-15k the year before that.

I was thinking of ordering the PDP-5060HD but this is cheaper.
Do we have a street date?
I'm moving in two weeks and want to get a new TV and Direct TV HD and Football/Baseball coverage right after the move.
SuicideNinja @ Jun 9th 2006 6:23PM
Why the hell would you downscale 1080p? They must not be with Sony on the whole "True HD" line of blasphemy.
A new TV that doesn't support it? Hmmm.

As anticipated. Cheap as come to Pioneer's PDP line up. NO Media box, NO side detachable speakers. NO Swivel stand that's why they're cheaper.
Also, if anyone notice the traditional Pioneer 43" size is no more and replace with 42"., the resolution for the 50" is now the standard 1,366 X 768 instead of Pioneer's own 1,280 X 768 And the old NEC 61" PDP which Pioneer use for 2-years is now a 60". The question is, what PDP are these Pioneer using? Pioneer, NEC or LG?
The model sold at Costco a while back which was a 42" entry level had LG glass, i'm not surprise to know these use it aswell.

I work at Bestbuy. These tv's are available for order as of today. Don;t know how long they will last in the warehouse.

The new TV's will be hitting the stores around Father's Day and the picture quality on these new panels definitely blows away the current gen panels. The new PDP's use PIONEER glass...remember Pioneer is one of the rare companies that actually manufacture their own panels. The 42 and 60 glass comes from the NEC plant that Pioneer acquired back in late 2004/early 2005 and retooled last year to produce Pioneer glass. The Pioneer line of panels never had swivel stands, only the ELITE line of panels has the swivel stand. The speakers are detachable on both the 50 and 60...and that Costco piece was not LG glass...get real...Pioneer using crappy LG glass...now that is funny. If you're going to post, at least have correct information regarding the products.
Perrey Z. @ Jun 16th 2006 10:14PM
You get Real NSidePioneer!
NEC use to have 61-inches. SIXTY ONE, SIX-ONE! NOT SIXTY! DID YOU HEARD THAT, "INSIDER".
PIONEER SHUT DOWN IT'S OWN PDP LINES. LEARN TO READ, I NEVER SAID THE NEW PIONEERS WERE GOING TO USE LG PDP., I ONLY GUESS THEY MIGHT USE LG PDP. SEE THE DIFFERENT?
As for the LG glass i manage to see one of thouse 4214HDs that had a broken PDP and it said LG Electronics.
Now, if you're such an isider POST pictures that proft your "Insider" status because as in right now i don't believe anything you wrote.

I just wanted to correct someone about Pioneer not having swivel stands. At best buy, the pioneer pdp 5041 did infact have a swivel stand. I used to sell it as I work for best buy. Pioneer had 2 models which were the pdp 5050 and the pdp 5051(best buy model). Its too bad they took out the swivel stand but the trade off is that the tv is cheaper and more affordable to people which will allow it to compete with other panels in consumers eyes. Hey, I'm buying mine this week! woohoo!
