TEAC's AM/FM RADIO R-1W
We loves to get old school now and again, so this new AM/FM radio from TEAC is looking pretty sweet right about now. The R-1W features some free swingin' BASS/TREBLE knobs, 10 hours off battery (with 2 hour recharge), a 1.5W 65mm speaker, headphone jack, and weighs just 3-pounds. Still, she manages to keep things fresh via an AUX IN jack for connecting your fave MP3 player. Now, if they could just slap on a few toggle switches we'll happily fork over the ¥12,600/$110 when these drop the 16th of June in Japan.

Its a shame it hasn't got DAB !
look out, iPod!
So where can we get these at?
I have a couple of these things knocking around the house. They are pretty good, but of course not a real boombox, it lacks the Omphfhh.
There is also a R2 version with a digital display. It has no autotuning so it's harder to find the stations on it than the R1, but it has an alarm clock.
They have been availible in Switzerland for a while. I am very happy with them, but they will probably have to be dumped when the batteries stop working as spare batteries for these kind of things are hard to come by.

Any one know how it does compare to Tivoli Model One?
$110 for an am/fm radio? are you serious? I would have to have some serious change to blow to purchase something I don't listen to for more than a hundred bucks.
I thought my Tivoli Pal was expensive too, however I use this thing nearly every day. It is a very simple solution for listening to your ipod in the backyard, garage or traveling. It easily fits in messenger bag or backpack and has long battery life. Best yet, it is not a proprietary Apple device and has a use even if your ipod battery dies.
Is this really new? I looked at them when shopping for a radio a few months ago. I settled on the Tivoli PAL, because I already had a Tivoli Model One and knew the sound would be great. But the cool handle on the side almost swayed me over to the TEAC. You can get these on Amazon.
