Nexxion Curves: TVs in color
Mmmm, teevee. If we can't have 'em big, then please oh gods of the blessed manufacturing process, deliver them in a variety of fashionable colors. Rising from the offal of our sacrificial lamb come these new 15-inch neXXion CURVEs which feature a 4:3 aspect ratio, 1024x768 resolution, 500:1 contrast ratio, 160-degree visibility, 12-millisecond response, and slot loading DVD player. Can somebody, we said a-somebody, give us an "amen" brother!? Ok, then how about the $400 or so dollars these will pull when they hit Japan June 23rd? Yeah, didn't think so.

blore40 @ Jun 22nd 2006 9:35AM
A can of acrylic spray paint at home depot = under 5 bucks. Paint your TV any color you want.
wish @ Jun 22nd 2006 9:36AM
ha
those designers out of cupertino seem to have a lot of admirers
dave95 @ Jun 22nd 2006 9:49AM
Hmmmm iMac imspired TV, but not the new iMac, the last century one (in tech world).
joshua @ Jun 22nd 2006 10:02AM
Wow, the worst combination of iMac-like style yet. and for a Cupertino style price. incredible.
I want all 6.
Intrepid @ Jun 22nd 2006 10:05AM
Mac? I would say retro inspired. Get over yourselves fanboys.
gio @ Jun 22nd 2006 10:17AM
Those are so ugly. Collect 3 and get one more for FREE
Alexandre.D @ Jun 22nd 2006 10:17AM
Dave, i believe the Mac you're talking about is LITERALLY last (XXth) century technology, i may be wrong, if so please correct me
wish @ Jun 22nd 2006 11:12AM
intrepid, not a fanboy, just stating the obvious
basically commenting on the shape of the screen as compared to the new iMacs, what with the wider border at the bottom. yeah its kinda thin, but its the first thing that came to mind
MacCanuck @ Jun 22nd 2006 11:24AM
Intrepid...
Mac? I would say retro inspired. Get over yourselves fanboys.
Get over yourself Apple/Mac basher.
These look like a cross between an alteration (flattened base, not as spherical) of the previous "luxo lamp" iMac and the present "looks like an LCD" (with deep/wide lower bezel) iMac.
Change the black frame around the screen on the white one and it could pass for an iMac hybrid (and which (model) computer was it that popularized multi colours???) You could say they've blended ALL the iMacs... original "gum drop" (multi colours), luxo (roundish base and arm) and "LCD" (general bezel/frame proportions).
Why copy just one Apple design when you can copy them all (in one package)! :-)
Don't let your biases and and what seems like an irrational dislike (of all things Apple, even it's "fanboys") blind you to the obvious.

Oh Apple fanboys get over it! what is everything that's well-designed has to be ripping off your beloved Apple? get real! your are forgetting the golden rule here: NO BASHING.
Ryan made very clear when the comments where remove and reinstated a week later. I believe he remind all of us These are just electronics, no more of that first post crap and muchless attacks and favoritism with Apple. You are all looking for a permanent elimination of the comments.
Back to the ELECTRONICS SUBJECT: These are very attractive., too bad is just Japan only. They will be much better if they were widescreen 1,366 X 768p HDTVS and 23-inches instead of a tiny 4:3 15-inches.
sharpie05 @ Jun 22nd 2006 12:39PM
the built-in dvd player is kind of nifty... this is probably geard towards parents who have young children. the colors would make it more "fun" for the kids.
about the mac deal... the first thing i thought when i saw these things was that they looked like the G4 iMacs, though a retarded deflated version. its closer than you think it is to the actual iMac. basically, you take one of those lcd bezel speaker kits(dell sells them for their ultrasharps), and put it on the iMac, and they look nearly the same. the G5 iMac bezel is solid, where the extra extention on the bottom of this thing looks separate. very apple-esque.

Amen!
jnasato @ Jun 22nd 2006 2:43PM
As MacCanuck wrote, they really did get "inspired" by all three iMacs! AHAHAHAHA!!! That's great...
*tear*
Joshi @ Jun 22nd 2006 5:18PM
First off, the design did remind me of the iMac G4 and G5. The round base and the chin do look iMac-like (imagine one in all-white and you'd see what I mean). Does that mean it was necessarily iMac-inspired? Not necessarily - the "chin" is, of course, the speakers - but the similarity is there. (It actually looks like my dream iMac - the adjustable design of the iMac G4 with a slot-loading drive in a smaller, Mac mini-like base.)
I love these TVs! I think that TVs really could use more color, but there's a reason you see few colored TVs: You want a neutral tone immediately around the picture. Sony recently released a TV that had interchangeable colored bezels, but a deep red border around the picture would make the picture seem "warmer." You don't want your TV altering the percieved tones of the picture.
But I think this design is a good compromise - the bezel immediately around the picture is neutral, with the speakers and base in color.
I love this design. Engadget hints that it's overpriced, but it's really not - I saw a cheap 15" Polaroid for $270 at Wal-Mart, and this has an integrated DVD player. You do pay a bit more for the style (and for the importing) but I don't think that's too high a price to pay for a pleasing design.
Now, what was that importer that would import any gadget you wanted from Japan? I'll take one in orange, please. :D
Superdotman @ Jun 22nd 2006 11:31PM
TVs? If you follow the link and click on CURVE SPEC, it'll mention a bunchful of Windows OSes, presumably those compatible with it. It looks more to me like a combination monitor/DVD drive.
Joshi, I believe you want www.lik-sang.com .
