Klegg gets busy on line of HD plasmas
Now that they've thoroughly cornered the market on spurious "world's smallest" color MP3 player claims, Klegg is concentrating on something quite a bit larger: HD plasma displays. Their new line comes in 42, 50, 55 and 63-inch flavors, and all four displays are framed in some snazzy aluminum. Klegg claims to have a special TFT anti-glistening liquid crystal layer in their displays to improve contrast and picture definition, and with a 10,000:1 contrast ratio we can't argue much with their claims until we see it in action. The displays go with the fairly standard 1366 x 768 resolution, and accept 720p and 1080i picture from HDMI, DVI and component sources. The displays include an ATSC HD tuner, and plenty of other nice interfaces. No word on pricing, but the displays should be available now from select dealers.

I like how they didn't even attempt to correct the perspective on the image they've superimposed on the display. Classy.

you mean that's not the Leaning Tower of Parliament?

maybe it is just an... brace for it... "edgy" tv show that uses unconventional angles :P Probably not though. One thing I wonder is why they release panels with so unstandard pixels counts, only to use standard resolutions. Why dont they all make true 720 or 1080 panels? Would it not be cheaper and make more business sense then this 768? Does it help with media pc resolutions? If it does that is unreasonable, seeing as they should output in just 720. Being so close and yet off seems ridiculous... they would either have to not show image in some areas, or convert it slightly, both of which would be... well... to put it bluntly, ignorant.
Perhaps I am missing the bigger picture, but some of these panels seem to have weird shaped pixels, or weird pixel counts... or weird aspect ratios. Why cant they all stick to a nice and friends 16:9 with X (where X equals the normal partner dimension) by720 or 1080...
I suppose one possibility I never thought of was that they are easier/cheaper to produce in these sizes... Any insight?

I thought I read once that HD broadcasts/DVDs in Japan/Europe are actually 1024x768 resolution. I can't remember the whole story, nor do I have time now to look it up, but for some reason that comes to mind...

Not even capable of true 1080i/p resolution. More dumb saps buying into these crappy plasma screens. I don't know of any plasma screens even capable of full 1080 HD resolution.

Oscar Feliciano; This year Pioneer will introduce what they claim to be the first 1080p 50-inch plasma and Panasonic will also release a 65-inch, claims and more claims. I won't believe until i see it. This is not new. They use to "make" Plasmas back in 2001 along with Helios and Howell & Bell.
