Keepin' it real fake, part XXXIV: iPod Universal Dock YesProduct
As if a Hong Kong-based auction taking payment in British pounds for one of these "iPod Accessaries" wasn't sketchy enough, this "YesProduct" comes with one "original sales package" that is "all brand new." We're still not sure if it'll accept the bevy of iPod ripoffs that we've seen over the past several months, but the eBay bidding starts at £8 ($15) if you want to find out.

This iPod dock is actually pretty good. I have seen unboxing videos for it, and it fits the iPod touch. Maybe not snuggly, but it fits. No clue on if it takes the genuine Apple dock adapters. Anyways, it does have a line out, and it works fine. Watch this unboxing video http://youtube.com/watch?v=mBR-VqoLngA
This dock is not great. The av cable that came with it does not stay in the dock. The original Apple one fits great though. The ipod touch does not fit in this dock with any dock adapters. You have to not use an adapter for it to work. The line out is not really a line out, but the same as a headphone minijack plug, and the volume at half way on the touch is way too low. You have to turn it up about 5 times for the volume output to be reasonable to your amp/tv/speakers.
What's so suspicious about this? I'm in the UK and I've bought plenty of accessories from china/hongkong ebay sellers - stuff like cases, memory cards, pci cards, usb devices, batteries, etc - the prices are great and tax-free, take about a week to get to the UK. As long as the seller has a lot of good feedback, you're safe: the seller in question has over 5000 feedback. Some of these guys offer products in various currencies to different countries. Never had one problem so far! Saved a tonne in the process.
"Accessaries"
So, it's a dock. It's far cheaper than Apple's version, and does exactly the same thing.
but the quality is CRAP!
* Connect the Dock to your computer with the cable that came with your iPod, then place your iPod in the Dock to sync and charge the battery. No more reaching behind the computer to plug it in.
* Connect the Dock to an electrical outlet using an iPod Power Adapter, then place your iPod in the Dock to charge the battery.
* Connect the Dock to a stereo or speakers using an iPod AV Cable or a stereo audio cable to play music from iPod.
* Display photos on a TV or other video device using an iPod AV Cable if you have an iPod with a color display.
* Display videos on a TV or other video device using an iPod AV Cable if you have an iPod with video capability.
Taken from the eBay listing. Guys, its just a tiny little extension cord inside a white piece of plastic. Not half as functional as Apple's dock (no line-out) and it doesn't even charge it. It is worth even less than sold for on eBay.
* Connect the Dock to a stereo or speakers using an iPod AV Cable or a stereo audio cable to play music from iPod. = line out....next
Yes, its more of a 'stand' and not a dock as telepheedian pointed out. Some people may find this useful (i bought something similar for my psp). And since Hong Kong used to be affiliated w/ the uk, um, whats wrong w/ taking pounds?
This is likely exactly like the one I got duped into buying. The package is exactly the same but the company wasn't YesProduct it was MacPlay. Tons of Engrish in the manual and on the box. The line out's volume is way too low to be a real line out and the cable doesn't really fit right. I had to work at it just to get it to stay. Big waste of $20 (CDN). But at least it wasn't from Hong Kong.
"Apple, the Apple logo, and iPod are trademarks of Apple computor, Inc.."
Buying fake faulty memory from china isnt good, they arent certified meaning they tend to fail most of the time, mmmmmmkay.
Not a line out. Line outs have equalized volume and don't require you to hook something up to the iPod itself. Additionally, doing anything with that would be impossible in the dock with an iPod nano, because the volume port is on the bottom.
Telepheedian- can you read? The listing clearly says CONNECT THE DOCK to a stereo with an AV cable. It doesn't say anything about "connecting something to the ipod itself", and is in fact EXACTLY the same as you do with an "official" Apple dock. As for not charging, the listing clearly states that if you connect the dock to your computer it will sync/charge, just like the Apple dock, and that if you connect it to a charger it will charge. Again, exactly the same as the Apple model.
i don't trust somone that can't even spell accesories
"accesseries"?
please, shoot me now
"i don't trust somone that can't even spell accesories" [sic]
I wouldn't trust someone that couldn't spell "someone" or "accessories" either, especially if it's their first language.
Dude, look who's talking?
You are an idiot!
SomEone - Don't forget the 'e'
accesSories - Don't forget the 's'
Jacob, what do you mean by "at least it wasn't from Hong Kong"? I'm pretty sure it was probably from Hong Kong and just shipped to Canada.
lol
This stuff is really starting to piss me off!
"Richard!": Dude, it's "accessories" (you missed an "s"). Go shoot yourself!
haha, stupid me
college sure hasn't made me much smarter
and why do you think i need someone to suggest that?
i've already considered it
please
OK, you guys look at it the wrong way!
They are just like pirate DVDs, if people still buy em, they are gonna carry on makin em! lol
That "Accessarie" is somthing I wouldnt buy, but if all I wanted was a quick cable, and I could save 10 by buying a "ripoff" from china, so be it!
Ashley
I should have elaborated. What I meant was, at least I didn't have to pay shipping from Hong Kong. I have no doubt it was made offshore.
I recently visited china (a few days ago) they have lots of similar products like this that are blatently obvious to be fakes, yet most of it still works fine. I purchased a fake ipod wall charger and a Itrip which work fine, for about 50 yuan each which is less than 10 AUD.
engadget, are you guys so bored that you're not just pointing out random 3rd party accessories? Sure they shouldn't have lifted the iPod font, but other than that how is this any different from any of the other bazillion 3rd party accessories made for ipods. After my belkin charger was stolen from my car (on a side note, it once shorted out my 3g ipod and made it burn by the dock connector...yes-burn) I replaced it with a lower quality third party charger-but even the belkin charger was 3rd party to begin with.
And I also bought some random battery extender that takes AAs...and it was like four bucks. So...what exactly is the problem with this dock? I don't think the seller expects you to believe that it's an authentic Apple product, and if you actually think it's an Apple product you've probably had one too many lobotomies.
I know from experience that this knock-off has a line out port but that said port's quality is pure crap. It totally negated the one reason I wanted the dock, to connect my Nano to the stereo while chargin, so it was a complete waste.
I wish I could edit the spelling in my past posts... :-( ("chargin") I hate leaving myself open to ridicule just because I type quickly (and don't proof read).
We know you already have considered it, but with someone's help. We suggest you DIY. :p
