Motorola's ROKR E6 released in China, US next?
Well hot damn, looks like Motorola went and sprung their smokin', linux-based ROKR E6 upon China today. Better yet, we now know that this 14.5-mm thinster delivers the much appreciated GSM 900/1800 bands in addition to the 1900 band we saw tested and approved in the FCC filing. That makes it of limited use (but use nonetheless) here in the US as long as you stay within the T-Mobile network. The phone delivers a 2.4-inch, 260k color QVGA touch-screen with stylus, a 2 megapixel camera and push-to-talk capabilities in addition to handwriting recognition, a QR code (barcode) scanner, business card reader, and document viewer for PDF and the most common MS Office apps. And unlike the first gen ROKR, this pup drops iTunes in favor of RealPlayer which means support for MP3, MPEG4, AAC+, WAV, and RealAudio formats -- fine and all, but most importantly, no artificial song cap -- so load up that 2GB SD card to your heart's content kid. Rounding things out on the audio front is the native 3.5-mm headphone jack and support for Bluetooth stereo audio (A2DP), integrated FM radio, dedicated music controls along the side, and a USB 2.0 jack up underneath for quick data transfer. When not lapping up the media you can talk for up to 7 hours or just sit and stare at the E6's clean lines for about 235 hours on standby. Yours for 4,280 chinese yuan or $545 retail if you can track 'er down.

Now this is sweet! I have an SE P990, which while doing just about everything, has certain stablity issues. Why can't Moto launch this puppy here in rainy wet windy England?
A|Z @ Nov 27th 2006 11:15AM
Why is the music icon upside down. I have an A1200 and I love the linux interface.
Iain @ Nov 27th 2006 11:17AM
I agree, we need this in the UK. It would be better if it had wifi and hsdpa though.
Aaron @ Nov 27th 2006 11:18AM
I think I'd rather have a Sony Ericsson W950i (4GB flash) or Nokia N91i (8GB HDD).

What happened to the E4 and E5? Did they just decide to skip up to E6? Better yet what happened to the ROKR E3, they sure are taking their time to release it.
Mayor McCheese @ Nov 27th 2006 1:40PM
Wow Motorola, 2 megapixels @ $545.00
Are you on crack?
2 mp was like two years ago considered recent technology and your phones were still at less than 1 mp.
Why would anyone informed consumer look twice at this p.o.s.? When you can purchase a SE K750i 2 mp phone for less than $200.00 that has more features and a better quality camera.
Motorola take off the blinders and see what Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung are offering.
evert @ Mar 18th 2007 1:40AM
is camera everything?
Lawrence @ Nov 27th 2006 2:55PM
are you serious? did you not read the feature list or look at the pictures? this phone is sweeeeeet. 2mp camera is more than enough for a phone. if you want a camera, go buy one.
Dave Pevsner @ Nov 27th 2006 5:39PM
iPhone who?
it's a good thing that this has a regular headphone jack instead of the 2.5mm that most phones have, because you can plug in earphones meant for listening to music and not just phone calls!
and who said 2mp isn't enough? 2 megapixels is too much for a phone or a normal point and shoot, i take everyday pictures at 800x600 or less, and the megapixel wars should only happen in the SLR and "pro point and shoot" fields. plus this phone isn't about the camera, cameraphone buffs are in the market for a samsung or sony ericsson, music phone buffs will eat this up.
blogsmitherines @ Nov 27th 2006 7:00PM
GSM errr....
of course, why would they want to create products for all us Verizon folks. Pair it up with a little GSM lovin and send it my way on this network please!
Soul @ Nov 27th 2006 8:41PM
this phone looks pretty sweet, but i think i'll stick w/ my MDA, i just love my little keypad =]
Mike @ Nov 28th 2006 1:51AM
sorry but I wouldn't touch "REAL PLAYER" with a ten foot pole.
CTG @ Nov 28th 2006 5:08PM
How does the SE K750i have more features?
More like Mayor McMoron.
Koko @ Dec 11th 2006 6:24PM
It looks like a great phone to me and feature packed too. I've always loved SonyEricsson and am on my 3rd handset (w810i) now but seems to me that nokia and motorolla are gaining ground on looks while SE is focusing on tech alone. The SE phones arent so great to look at most times (I love tech and that's why I've been with SE but wont mind great beauty added to the package..... am currently flirting with other phone makers right now)
Gymo @ Dec 14th 2006 7:45PM
Ha Nokia and Moto catching up, are you serious, Nokia is the leader in TECH, and Moto in looks, and soon tech when they get Linux on all their phones, are you kidding me, Sony has always been behind the 3 major Cell Kings, Samsung is another one who is ahead of Sony too, now that 4GB Sony (w850 i think) is pretty sweet but no cam so it lacks n tech! Sony ahead...wow......When it comes to music, id have to say MOTO, tech all around Nokia & shares glory of music with moto, the only thing sony has is your headphones!

This phone is great all around, even though it would be a lot better if the price is $100 or so lower. In fact, I'mg etting this phone whenever it is released outside of China Mobile. And since I DO work at a phone store, I know how to look at phones and what prices are good for them.
If you want a phone that has more than 2MP then go buy a camera, enough said. Its a phone! not a freaking camera. And 2MP just tells you how big the resolution can be, it doesn't mean anything else other than that.
This is basically just a way better upgrade of the E690, everyone can see that. And Motorola is making better phones now, so stop hating on them, even though I like Nokia the most. Starting from the KRZR and RIZR, Motorola has taken a step forward in making better phones, so I don't see why this phone is considered a "p.o.s." Just plain stupidity to whoever that said that.
The K750i is nowhere near this phone's capability. Its functions and features are SLOW and you can't argue with that.
And stop talking about which phone company is the leader, since it just depends on everyone's taste in phones. For durability and new looks, go with Nokia. For great looks go with Samsung. For the best camera and audio, go with SE. For a cheap, yet great phone, then its Motorola. Its just common sense.
I just had to say something since it makes me mad at how many people in the world are so ignorant.
Buffy @ Jan 28th 2007 5:36PM
All these features and no Quad Band? Come on Moto. I'll wait until they hack this up to enable Quad Band.
rena @ Feb 11th 2007 1:17AM
hehehehe im getting one. =] its beautiful nd it will be my baby. hehehe nd no one has it yet where im from which is way awesome. wooh!
monkey @ Mar 8th 2007 5:44PM
u can unlock the 850 band so it will be quad band. im learning how to do it and it can only be done on certain fones. the only other one i found that can do it is the L2.
Cokeman @ Mar 23rd 2007 3:17AM
The phone is extremely nice. I haven't had to use the stylus yet. Not only can you enable the 850mhz making it quad-band you can also enable EDGE on it. Certain 4gb SD cards work as well (Not SDHC). At the moment I have 730 mp3's games, apps etc...& still have a little over a gig left to play around with.
Everyone can argue over who is the leader but the fact is Motorola is making some nice phones, & they can be modded like no other cell phone. There are numerous phones released as tri-band but can be made to quad-band. E2, A1200, E6, E398, etc...the list goes on & on. Bottom line the E6 rocks.

Can someone tell me what websights to download games for this phone and how to change it to a quad band phone. I'm in need of help. I'm requesting any replies, suggestions, and recommendations. Thank you in advance.

Yes, yes there are. Themes like an iphone theme, so you can be the envy of all your 'friends'. www.motorolafans.com Go to the forums, then to the Rokr E6 forum. I discovered this phone a week ago and I can't wait to buy one, $285 eBay.
Rob @ Nov 14th 2007 12:22PM
I just moved to China and bought this phone, the total price was 2,398 yuan, so about $300 or so US dollars. The price has really come down. I absolutely love this phone, especially the music player and the high resolution camera and it's great looks - a lot of people here are really jealous.
