Dell's 22-inch E228WFP widescreen LCD loosed in Japan
Dell has been offering their version of the 22-inch, 1680x1050 LCD monitor in Australia for some time now. As of tomorrow it hits the shores of Japan with the same 300cd/m2 brightness, 800:1 contrast, 160-degree viewing angle, 5-ms typical response, and DVI jack in tow. Analog RGB? Yeah, that too old schooler. Priced at a very Westinghoused, tax-included price of ¥66,150 (about $563). However, unlike the Westinghouse, Dell's monitor brings HDCP to the game for viewing HD content in Vista. Still waiting on word for a US drop.

Why would I pay double for the dell just to get HDCP?

I think I'd just spend the extra 100 bucks and get the 24" Ultrasharp. The extra pixels are worth it.

Remember this is a TN panel so it's not going to give you the best color reproduction.

The Samsung 244T is more impressive and runs about $850. Just don't buy it from Notebookforless.Cancelled the order within a few minutes of placing it because I felt something was wrong almost immediately. The confirmation e-mail was so generic it caused me concern-I buy A LOT of electronics online so I have seen many. I was correct. That was the last e-mail I received for a week. No response to two cancellation requests until someone replied the item had been shipped already despite no e-mail confirming a shipment or tracking number. Of course the monitor ended up requiring service from the manufacturer-DOA. I have purchased over 20K worth of electronics in the last couple of years and this is the first time I felt obliged to warn people about a company. I would not recommend this merchant-I would much rather pay more and get better service including timely responses, shipping confirmation and tracking information and most importantly products that work.
