Brother's MPrint MW-260: boring B&W printing in the palm of your hand
While those compact photo printers are all well and good, they don't really compete with the incredible amount of teensy tiny in this new MPrint MW-260 from Brother. Fortunately for them, they do something useful, while MPrint can only churn out black & white A6 papers of questionable value. We're sure the enterprising businessman or resourceful secret agent could find a use for the thing, especially with Bluetooth, IrDA and USB connectivity, and compatibility with PCs and several flavors of Windows Mobile, but we'll probably just stick with writing things on our arms for now. Specs aren't shabby though: 300dpi, 20ppm, 0.73-inches thick. No word on price or availability, but it's unlikely we'll be seeing this one outside of Japan.

Boring it may be, but 90% of the printing I do is grayscale. I assume that it actually does grayscale, not B/W since printers have been capable of that for a good two decades. Actually, the article doesn't even say that it DOESN'T do color.
I can see this being really useful for printing shipping labels on the fly in a warehouse. Too bad I never need to print labels on the fly and don't work in a warehouse...
Apparently, no one here has ever rented a car. Hertz and the others have been letting you return your car at the parking lot. A clerk just prints out your bill from a belt-hanging mini printer, thus saving you precious minutes when you got to catch a flight.
could see this as being very useful once integrated into a desk or those mobile touchpads delivery people use. no more trying to decipher what the UPS/FedEx guy wrote on the missed delivery slip.
I have the previous model mPrint MW-140BT. The only difference I can tell is the new USB connectivity on the MW-260. (MW-140BT has only IrDA and Bluetooth.) However both of them can only print on special thermal paper which costs a fortune. I nowadays simply stick with my Post-It.
how about for printing coupons as needed?
Hey! Is this the same technology used in those scanner/printers that NYC cops use to print parking tickets?!?
If so, I'm coming for you brother! And hell's comin' with me!
Yes - Nearly a 1000 of the older MW-140BTs are being used to issue parking tickets in London !
Look out Brother
