GameStop offering PSP Value Pack for value price, 'in select stores'

read the fine print

When Sony is ready to drop PSP's price (again), the announcement won't be stashed at the bottom of GameStop's weekly ad page. No, this "new low price" is merely an out with the old campaign -- call it: spring cleaning. It's GameStop's effort to rid its warehouses of the PSP Value Pack, which was replaced by the Entertainment Pack last September (at least, by most retailers).

We called several NYC-area GameStops to inquire about the deal. Not one had heard of nor seen the ad. "Select stores" indeed. Still, if you manage to locate an outlet that's honoring the bargain, consider that you're paying 'Core' price ($200) for the added benefits of a (essentially worthless) 32MB Memory Stick, headphones (with attached remote), soft case, cleaning cloth, and (definitely worthless) sampler UMD. Also consider, for an additional $50, you could score the Entertainment Pack (from just about any other major retailer), which upgrades the 32MB stick to 1GB and throws in ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin' Trails and Lords of Dogtown (UMD movie) -- but you'd give up the headphones, case, and cloth.
