Yule-tide quest guide for non-Hobbits

The Lord of the Rings Online Yule-tide festivities are comprised of a single level 1 quest resulting in a snow-covered tree for your front yard. Not quite on the scale of the Harvest Festival, but something fun to do and the reward looks great on your virtual lawn.

The problem is that all the running around you do in the Shire can take forever if you didn't level a Hobbit. Massively has come to the rescue with your Yule-tide quest guide for Shire newbies. It's all you need to know to claim your tree and get back to farming for that Rift armor.

Overview

Lobelia Sackville-Baggins wants to play Grinch to the Hobbits' Yule-tide celebration. Somehow she has claimed the official title of Yule-planner and declared only wilty vegetables and an early bedtime for all, instead of an all night, multiple-course banquet meal and never-ending keggers of ale. It's up to you to find out how she wormed her way into the job and how to save Yule-tide for all the gluttonous, alcoholic, pipe-weed lovin' Hobbits.

  1. Head to Hobbiton and pick up Yuletide Woes quest from any named Hobbit in town

  2. Talk to all named Hobbits in area and find Invitation at Ted Sandyman's mill

  3. Take Invitation to Mayor Whitford in Michel Delving

  4. Find Bylaws book in the Great Smials library in Tookland and return it to the Mayor

  5. Find 10 Hobbits in Hobbiton to sign petition to dethrone Lobelia

  6. Present petition to Lobelia

  7. Talk to Gamgee to receive reward

Getting to the Shire

Take a horse to Michel Delving for 1 silver from West Bree, Clenodim or Thorin's Hall. From there you want to run to Hobbiton-Bywater (31.4S, 71.1W). Before you head there, you may want to set your Map to Michel Delving to make this go faster. To get to the milestone, run North East from the stable master, take the first left. The path will fork into three paths. Take the right path and head straight north to the Milestone (33.5S, 75.2W). Head back the way you came.

Getting to Hobbiton-Bywater

Head North East out of Michel Delving. The path splits at a boulder. Take the right fork heading East to the small Hobbit encampment of Waymeet. Stay on the path all the way through the wagon encampment and out the other side heading East. Run up to the top of the hill. You'll see a break in the wall with a path heading North down to the water. That will lead you down to Hobbiton (31.4S, 71.1W). If you crest the hill, you've gone too far.

Yuletide Woes

You can talk to any of the named Hobbits in Hobbiton to start the quest. This is a level 1 quest, so if your level is too high, the townsfolk may not have quest rings over their heads, but clicking on them will get you the quest anyway.

It's your job to inquire among the Hobbiton folk for clues about Lobelia's new position. You must talk to 10 of the Hobbits including the one who gave you the quest. The Hobbits are:

  • Bogo Chubb (31.3S, 71.2W) - Hobbiton stable-master. On the left as you enter the town. Don't forget to grab this as a travel point. It will come in handy later.

  • Hal Hornblower (31.3S, 71.2W) - standing to the left of the stable-master.

  • Daddy Twofoot (31.3S, 71.1W) - standing in front of the Ivy Bush Inn, across from the stable master.

  • Shirriff Robin Smallburrow (31.4S, 71.1W) - at the bar in the Ivy Bush Inn

  • Hereward Loamsdown (31.4S, 71.1W) - behind the bar in the Ivy Bush Inn

  • Holly Hornblower (31.2S, 71.1W) - behind the Ivy Bush Inn

  • Postman Grubb (31.2S, 71.3W) - across the main road from Holly Hornblower

After talking to these seven, head across the bridge to the small mill on the water's edge.

Speak to Ted Sandyman (30.8S, 71.2W). He acts very suspicious which gives you the idea to search his place. On the back porch, you'll find an invitation.

Pick it up.

It seems that Lobelia has decided to have a very private party of just her and a few close friends like Mr. Sandyman. You must bring this to the attention of Mayor Whitfoot in Michel Delving.

Run back the way you came, or grab a Horse from Bogo Chubb or even Map back if you picked up the Milestone in Michel Delving. Once there, head North and take the North East fork at the Milestone to the town square. Talk to Mayor Whitfoot (33.4S, 75.0W) and he will give you the next step in the quest chain.

The Book of Festival-Law

It seems that Lobelia came a callin' on the Mayor last month to learn more about Yule-tide laws. She discovered that whoever lives in Bag End gets to be the Yule-planner. The Mayor wants you to go find the Book of Festival-Law in the library of the Great Smials in Tuckburough. Maybe something in there can help you thwart the stingy old crone.

Getting to the Great Smials Library

Take the same directions that gets you to Hobbiton, except when you get to the top of the hill, instead of turning North down to Hobbiton, turn South and take the path up to Tuckburough. Stay straight on the path and it will take you through the small town and directly onto the doorstep of the Hobbit house known as the Great Smials (33.6S, 71.1W) . Once inside, you'll see a door on the left leading to the library. In the library, inspect a glowing bookcase to the left on the South wall. Take the book you find back to Mayor Whitfoot in Michel Delving.

Yule Be Sorry

The Mayor consults the Bylaws book you deliver to him. He discovers that 10 signatures on a petition will remove Lobelia as Yule-planner. He tasks you with getting those signatures from the residents of Hobbiton. Head back to Hobbiton, visit the same seven Hobbits you talked to earlier plus these two:

  • Gaffer Gamgee (30.2S, 71.5W)- Go over the bridge in Hobbiton and take the second side road on the left.

  • Opal Goodbody (29.6S, 71.6W) - Head back out to the main road, go further North and take the next side road on the left. This is the Party Tree area. Opal is on the right.

After talking to Opal and only getting 9 of the 10 signatures, present the petition to Lobelia. Head back out to the main road, continue North and take the final side road on the left. Lobelia (29.4S, 71.3W) will be standing on her porch at Bag End looking self-important.

She is predictably outraged when you present her with the petition, but smug when her son standing next to her points out it's missing one signature. Right then, Marigold Gamgee runs up to provide the final signature. Lobelia is incensed that she has been removed as Yule-planner, but there is nothing she can do.

A Happy Hobbiton

Return to Gaffer Gamgee (two side roads South of Bag End.) He is grateful you prevented Lobelia from keeping all the good food for herself and rewards you with a Yule-tree.

Now you can plant that tree in front of your house to remind yourself of the day you saved Yule-tide instead of spending that time fighting back the Shadow of Angmar that threatens to destroy all the land.
