We've seen our fair share of iPod copies and Apple rips, but it's always good fun when a company which itself admits to
the fine art of knocking others off finds its logo unwittingly affixed to some cheap Chinese piece of CE. Just for the record, this Samsung "digital media player" has 512MB flash, miniSD, a 2.2-inch 220 x 176 display, and a whole lotta charm.

WOW.............that's all i gotta say about this.
Crazylink @ Jan 21st 2007 1:03AM
It's got a nice looking GUI to say the least.
kev @ Jan 21st 2007 1:06AM
At least they're probably not lying about the disk space...
souravgh @ Jan 21st 2007 1:18AM
its really common ,my bro got one from dhaka (bangladesh) where incidently half the electronics are chinese. its labelled sony and has 1 GB of Disk Space and plays only mp3 and amv files.
Kip HT @ Jan 21st 2007 1:44AM
I fail to see how this is a rip off. It doesn't have a scroll-wheel. it is not white, it doesn't use apples gaudy GUI. It doesn't look at all like an iPod except that its rectangular. Jeez
OMFG!! THEY USED SHAPES, COLOURS AND A SCREEN! ITS A COPY!
Kip HT @ Jan 21st 2007 1:47AM
Or is it not a Samsung device, and Samsungs name is put on it. And did I just made a fool of myself...
Kev50027 @ Jan 21st 2007 2:51PM
you're stupid. They used the Samsung name on a device that is NOT made by Samsung. If you even bothered to read what they posted, you would realize it's not copying an iPod, the thing that makes it fake is the Samsung name. Read before you comment.
cuby @ Jan 22nd 2007 12:03AM
chill dude, he realized his mistake and came clean. i thought they meant it was an iphone ripoff at first also.
Nando @ Jan 21st 2007 2:02AM
That's an ugly thing...both the product and its GUI!
Tim @ Jan 21st 2007 2:30AM
yes, kip, you did just make a fool of yourself. if you had read the first comment, you would have seen that "Sony" and "Samsung" both have the exact same product on the market, and, just about everyone with a brain could tell you that this means they are cheap chinese devices labeled with samsung and sony so that they would sell.
enzo @ Jan 21st 2007 3:02AM
He admitted his wrongdoing. No need to rub it in...

they have nano knock offs too
apeguero @ Jan 21st 2007 2:58AM
People, click on the link at least before trying to ridicule this post. In there you'll find cheap imitations of the nano and others...Man! People are quick at hatin' these days!

i laugh at two things: the utter prevalence of the term "mp4" in chinese products, and the emergence of the shitty "mp4/digicam" crap that has just recently been imported en masse into the US at the same time completely innundating eBay. i saw some fobs at school showing them off, and not-suprisingly despite the different brands, it's obvious that ALL of them are of the SAME design (probably even from the same factory). the UI's "Eng Mode" is nothing short of pidgin english that's translated into chinese via google AND BACK again ("star war - backstroke of the west" anyone?).
makes me sick
RFcomz @ Jan 21st 2007 3:21AM
I think it is funny you would criticize Samsung especially considering how important a role they and their suppliers will play as far as the electronics that will be in all the over hyped gadgets that will be out in 2007....lol too funny
Kip HT @ Jan 21st 2007 4:13AM
Sorry everyone. :(
Raisingod @ Jan 21st 2007 9:19AM
Is it just me or the "Sony" one has Nokia series 4 battery ? LOL
js @ Jan 21st 2007 10:42AM
Do you fail to realize that they use the same colour scheme on the iPhone?
You Apple zealots should be ashamed for not realizing that, and I'm not even an Apple fanboy!
apeguero @ Jan 21st 2007 1:26PM
Are they counterfiting cars too? I'd be interested to know. Imagine people driving around in Mercedes "Banz" or B"N"W or even T"a"yota. That'll be the day. But then again, are they copying cars over there too and doing with them like they did with the Duracell batteries where they give it some name similar to it but use the same colors and all?
Maff @ Jan 21st 2007 1:28PM
Looks like a Nokia battery in that 'sony' player!??
Ignacio @ Jan 21st 2007 1:50PM
These look familiar too... (a bit thicker and with half the memory of the smallest/cheapest iPod nano though)

How ironic. Company sends manufacturing work to China to save money but then loses market share due to illegal copies and counterfits.
I used to chat with this other passenger on my weekly flights to Detroit who used to work for a company that made duplicators or machines that made models from scanning engineering specs. He told me how the company had set up a model at another company in China for them to try out before they bought it. He said they never really heard from the company at all for a really long time. He then had to fly back to pick up the machine as that company never bought the it. He said they probably reverse engineered that machine and made their own. It's that bad over there people. Have a product you want to sell and need manufacturing? Save the money and send the manufacturing work to China. But guess what? Expect your product to be released by another company using a similar name, similar or even better specs, for a much cheaper price. Oh, the irony! I just love how these big companies keep getting played by these Chinese manufacturers :) If only they weren't so cheap and figured how to keep the manufacturing work here in America where they have a lot better legal recourse. Oh, whatever. My sentiments are so 20th century I guess.
