HD DVD and Blu-ray releases on Janurary 23rd, 2007

We are getting closer to the day that all Blu-ray fanboys have been waiting for, the day when there are more Blu-ray titles available than HD DVD. Sure there are already more players available and more players have been sold, but of course this doesn't get us any closer to knowing how many movies have actually been sold, but it's as good an indicator as any. While Blu-ray has the second highest number of titles released in one day HD DVD has only 2 and pending any new announcements on Feb 6th both HD DVD and Blu-ray will have the same number of titles (yes we corrected the numbers again this week). This week Paramount releases Black Rain on both formats and HD DVD gets critically acclaimed Brokeback Mountain while Blu-ray fans are plummeted with a slew of catalog titles from Fox and Buena Vista, like Alien vs. Predator and Men of Honor. Lionsgate does deliver on the rest of the Saw franchise this week as well.
