Black and red Nintendo Wiis already confirmed?

We're going ahead and tossing this one in alongside all the other probable-but-not-official rumors out there, as apparently "an anonymous Nintendo representative revealed that black and red Wii consoles have been confirmed." No, there wasn't any followup about other colored offerings, nor any questions about when this colorific duo would hit stores (skeptical yet?), but we will admit this isn't the first time we've gotten wind of colorful Wiis (not to mention a price drop) being on the horizon. So while it's definitely in the Big N's character to pump out old hardware in a variety of colors, we've still got little to go on with regard to its latest machine, but we're sure there's a few talented people out there that could create a vivid version for you if you don't feel like waiting around (or cherishing your loot).[Via Joystiq]
Seeing as how there have been those nice paint jobs for the PS3 and some custom ones for the X360, I don't see why some people aren't buying them up and selling colorized versions. Should be easier seeing as how it's smaller and a mostly flat surface.
Oh wait, because it's selling out even when it's in just white...
colored Wii's.... oh yay.. because everyone knows the color of the console makes it play better.... i dont even have my Wii in a place that can be seen when im not loading in a disk....

Anyone heard anything yet regarding dvd playback functionality on these new boxes? Engadget posted something about rumors of a firmware update a while back...
The DVD playback has been announced for late 2007. Check www.nintendo.com for more information. The system will cost more than the current system.
Everyone knows that adding flame decals to your PC or car makes it faster, so it only makes sense that differenct colours will make the Wii better!
If it means I can finally get my hands on one, I'm all for more colors!

dvd playability is available through an add on not a firmware upgrade.ninty did this because theres some dvd levy that has to be paid when selling a dvd player, so users who want the dvd player play the elevy while the rest dont

colors?...price drop??? arent these tactics used to sell more consoles when buying slows down? i have still yet to see any Wiis in stock anywhere.
I'd happily buy just a plain white one if there were any in stock anywhere!
I hope it's true, and if so, then all I want to know is if those colors are going to be released at the same time as the price drop?
My understanding is that your VC games are linked to your Wii, not any account, so if you swap your Wii for a new one, you have to buy them all again.
I've got to echo everyone else that has commented that colors and price drops seem like a crazy idea when you can't find a frikin white one anywhere for love nor money.

There is an echo, I hear it too. I'd buy a pink polka dotted one, hell throw some silly flowers on it! Don't really care what it looks like just let me buy the unit with as little frustration as possible.
If this is true, I certainly hope they have those new and improved Wii remotes available with the new colours. Or at least discount the rumours of them by the time the colours are available.

It's not even christmas rush anymore and I STILL can't get one. Walmart and BJs are just about the dumbest stores in the are, cuz they only order about 2, while they have this massive backlog of non-selling PS3s and XBOX 360s. (Walmart ads are all lies too, they dont even really sell Wii games, they aren't trying)
Gamestop.. geez. I hear there was a release on saturday, so i go on monday and expect that, since XMAS is over a month ago and done with, I can get what I deserve for not ganking some xmas shopping mother with a car and running away with her Wii. But no, "we sold out".

Nintendo always introduces new colors and a price drop when sales begin to slow post-launch. that's not happening anytime soon. on the plus side, since new colors are a loooong way off there's a chance DVD support may be included by then.
and for anyone planning to swap consoles - i hope you're prepared to buy ALL of your VC games again. VC titles DO NOT transfer. they are system-bound.

everyone who actually loathes any system just hates the fact that they can't afford all three. get jobs and save some money, idiots. i know 85% of you still live at home anyway, so you don't have any bills to pay.
