Burn rubber on your cell with PGR Mobile

We just received word that Xbox's beloved racing franchise Project Gotham Racing will be coming to a cell phone near you. Developed by Glu Mobile, Project Gotham Racing Mobile is setting out to be the best racing game ever! For a cell phone of course. The kudos system is still in place as well as multiple vehicles, online leaderboards and unlockable preview content for PGR4. But there is one major problem ... it's a cell phone game. We aren't cell phone game aficionados, but we know that the controls on cells are a tad limited and are the main reason why we aren't hardcore cell phone gamers. Here's to you PGR for going where few have succeeded and possibly slapping on a "I'm whoring my franchise out" sticker on your rear bumper. We only kid, because we love you PGR. Full press release after the break.

Project Gotham Racing® Mobile Tears onto Phones around the World - Glu launches "the best mobile racer" according to PocketGamer

SAN MATEO, Calif. – February 9, 2007 – Glu Mobile, a leading global publisher of mobile games, today announced the worldwide launch of the eagerly-awaited Project Gotham Racing® Mobile (PGR® Mobile). Developed and published by Glu exclusively for mobile phones, PGR Mobile is the first mobile adaptation of the original award-winning Project Gotham Racing® franchise on Microsoft® Xbox® and Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment systems. The global launch gives gamers around the world a way to experience the style and speed of PGR directly on their mobile phone.

Project Gotham Racing set the standard in racing video games on Xbox, and this is the first time an adaptation of the popular racing franchise has been available on mobile phones. PGR Mobile has already been received with critical acclaim; IGN.com named PGR Mobile "one of the most anticipated games of 2007" and UK-based PocketGamer gave the game a 9/10 and a Gold Award and stated "PGR Mobile is the best mobile racer we've ever played."

"Project Gotham Racing is the number one action-oriented racing franchise, and PGR Mobile captures the high-quality gameplay with the style and speed true to the original franchise," said Jill Braff, general manager of the Americas, Glu Mobile. "We're excited to bring the first mobile adaptation of this award-winning franchise to mobile phones around the world."

"The Project Gotham Racing franchise is loved by millions worldwide," said Edward Ventura, Director of Franchise Development at Microsoft. "Glu has the demonstrated ability to capture the excitement of the Project Gotham Racing franchise and deliver a truly innovative and dynamic mobile game."

Players can choose between eight of today's hottest cars - the Honda NSX, Aston Martin Vanquish, Cadillac 16, Ford GT, Lamborghini Gallardo, Mercedes AMG-C-DTM, Toyota GT-ONE and Corvette C6 – through detailed city landscapes in some of the world's greatest cities, including San Francisco, Paris, London, Cairo and Shanghai.

Each vehicle's unique physics and engine specifications including top speed and horsepower are emulated in the game, and preserving the hallmark style-based racing mechanic, players earn 'Kudos' by drifting around corners, making use of other racers slipstreams (drafting), overtaking and getting air time over jumps. Extra bonuses are available for particularly skillful and stylish motoring where the player combines a series of kudos maneuvers. With PGR Mobile, it's not just about how fast you drive, but how you drive fast.

The game is now available via major wireless carriers in Europe, North and South America and Asia and will continue to launch worldwide in the coming months. To find out how to purchase PGR Mobile or for additional information, please visit www.pgrmobile.com.
