Zyken's NightCove provides a pricey better night's rest
While we've seen our fair share of methods to make your night's rest a bit more comfortable (or uneasy), Zyken's latest supposedly provides the perfect solution to combat "light pollution" and help you sleep exactly as nature intended. While you may be functioning on highly caffeinated beans or an overpriced can of energy-injecting liquid right now, the LED-infused NightCove emits various colors throughout the night to coincide with the time, theoretically "stimulating melatonin production" and helping folks sleep better. Of course, there's "proven research" on the firm's website suggesting that these claims are indeed factual, and we must admit the design would lend a hand in sprucing up a mundane bedroom, but for a reported €1,785 ($2,324), it's only a hair cheaper than the entirely more impressive million dollar bed.[Via ShinyShiny]

Try a tempur-pedic bed instead. I will never buy a regular bed ever ever ever again!!

Wow. Talk about kicking an insomniac when they're down.
'Hey Mr. Insomniac, you look like you could use a good night's sleep and for just $2,324, we can help!'

Light at night suppresses Melatonin.
If you want a better night's sleep, turn off the TV.
Sleeping in the dark is best, but if you need a night light avoid anything with white or blue light (amber LED's are a good choice).
This is also priced for people with more money than sense.

Reading the blog comment thread, we'd like to share some clarifications:
NightCove doesn't produce light during sleeping time but only for a short period of time (personalizable by the user) when falling asleep and when waking up.
Leveraging LED technology, NightCove is able to create an optimal lighting environment in the evening (when reading or wanting to fall asleep) that will not have any negative effect on melatonin secretion (unlike traditional bulbs and halogen lights).
Zyken has worked with a committee of sleep science and light therapy experts to make sure that NightCove complies with and leverages the latest sleep & light scientific studies.
Zyken conducted a scientific validation study carried out by an independent research company. The study confirmed the efficiency of NightCove to provide better quality sleep, more energy in the morning and more mind clarity in the morning. The results of this study were presented at a prominent European gathering of sleep experts back in October 2006.
NightCove's 'high' price point is based on functions (including personalization) + quality + design for 4-5* hotels and upscale homes.

This is absolutely awesome!
I really look forward to having this at home.
Probably good to have this in hotel rooms too after tiring red eyes.
