PS3 firmware v 1.60: Folding@home, background downloads, other yum extras
We know chances are you've probably got better things to read about than the PS3's next firmware, but this one proves to have some fun goodies sure to catch a few eyes. Namely, you've got that Folding@home client, as expected (did you join Team Engadget? Didya?), background downloads (finally!), Remote Play for wired 20GB PS3s -- all four of them out there -- and an onscreen keyboard á la the Wii, except, you know, different because it's PS3. Look out for that to drop on March 22nd (in Japan, anyway), suspiciously near the Euro launch date.[Via Joystiq]

is this like that "update" for the 360? you know when microsoft sneaks in security to stop hackers......
Who really cares if you're in Team Engadget (or any team for that metter) as long as you're contributing to science?
Duh... E-Penis
THIS IS THE MARCH UPDATE????
Where is the Scaling Fix?
Where is the DLNA Support?
Where is are the GAMES?
Geez!
The games is/are coming, don't worry.
Is this going to make europeans play their PS2 games?
There will be ZERO 20GB available for the Australian launch.
yum extras? Is that a covert Fedora joke?
Nice. Can't wait to start folding those proteins!
Not to be pedantic, but "á la the Wii" in the article should instead read "à la the Wii" (grave accent instead of acute/aigu).
More generally, if you're writing in English, just put "a la the Wii". We'll all know what you meant, and you don't have to worry about which accent is which.
Or you could just remove the Wii comment altogether.
Wouldn't that be easier and slightly less flamebait-y?
Yeah, but without flamebait they wouldn't draw hits and ad revenue.
I am sure the Xbox 360 had one a year before the others launched, and if you count computers they pre-date that. Or did Nintendo invent those to.
Great update. Been waiting for it.
I guess I'm one of the 4 with a 20gb. Give me scaling, and give me GAMES!!!
Are the PSP and PS3 made by the same company? It's amazing to see the difference in the amount and quality of upgrades Sony has thrown at the PS3. If they had that same ambition with their portable, it might be a little more popular.
"We know chances are you've probably got better things to read about than the PS3's next firmware..."
Yes, you are correct. And most of us also have better things to do than read about yet another pointless, over-priced and crappy iPod compatible product, or vague, unsourced iPhone rumour - but that doesn't stop you posting articles on those subjects constantly.
Jeez....
