Gateway's first tablet since the
CX210 / M285-E, announced almost a year ago today, is here: the widescreen convertible E-155C. The laptop, same as we
saw a couple weeks back, comes equipped with a 12.1-inch WXGA bidirectionally rotating display, Core 2 Duo ULV processor, 802.11a/b/g WiFi, fingerprint reader, media reader, 1394, drives up to 120GB, and DVD burner in a 4.5-pound 1.17-inch thick body. Of course, it will run Vista, and be priced to order from the cow people in, um, southern California. More pics below.

"and be priced to order from the cow people in, um, southern California"
Cow people? Just because they have cow designs on their logo, doesn't mean you have to make fun of them. How about calling Apple Inc. the apple pickers, or Dell Inc. as the farmers in the dell? I think we should have more consideration for other companies, than name-calling.

Huh? Cows were a HUGE part of their marketing and image for many years. It wasn't meant to be a pejorative, I just find it humorous that they moved to SoCal and kept the cow spots.
Irakli Vacharadze @ Apr 19th 2007 12:50AM
Ryan,
Despite the fact you (or I) may find it humorous, clearly the post just heart someone and it's OK to apologize; We'll still like mighty Engadget :)
michael @ Apr 19th 2007 12:45AM
I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound very derogatory towards you. I guess I just misinterpreted your meaning of it. I can be a bit snide sometimes. I'm truly sorry. I hope you accept this apology.
Sakura3210 @ Apr 19th 2007 3:00AM
Don't you know happy cows come from California?
...I'm sorry, I just had to XD

Tablets are very nice, but I'm so spoiled by my 15.4" WUXGA laptop that I don't know if I could ever handle the downshift.
Bring on the WUXGA tablets, and cue the posts citing the technological difficulty of creating such a beast.

WTF, is that Windows XP?
Patrick @ Apr 19th 2007 1:06AM
Dear Gateway, I'm still waiting after a month for you to fix the case on my M275 that one of your technicians cracked when I sent it in for a repair. That you made me pay shipping for. After I bought the 3-year on-site warranty.
Sorry, gateway is $#!t. I love the tablet form factor but I wish now I had bought it from just about any other manufacturer.

The shot of MS Word running is horribly shopped in; it makes me wonder whether the written annotations they show even exist.
clayton @ Apr 19th 2007 9:05AM
Hey gxti;
That doesn't look like MS Word, it's MS OneNoe
Jesse @ Apr 19th 2007 2:53AM
Does anyone know if this is going to have the dual touch capability or will it still be stylus only?
Kev50027 @ Apr 19th 2007 9:32AM
Stylus only.
Tom @ Apr 19th 2007 9:04PM
The base price of this over at gateway.com is about $2K. Unfortunately it's only loaded with XP.
HP has a similar tablet, too, that runs Vista. But HP's uses AMD chips, not intel.
sophie @ Apr 30th 2007 9:30PM
funny, you say it like vista's a good thing...
not on my tablet, no thanks.
Kev50027 @ Apr 19th 2007 9:33AM
Now when will Sony come out with a tablet? They've been slowly expanding their laptop offerings for years, but currently their only "tablet" is their UMPC. I love my old U70p, but a larger convertible tablet is what I'd like to see from Sony.
mike @ Apr 19th 2007 11:01AM
actually, only our corporate office moved to irvine california. us here in the sales departments are still here in south dakota...so we arent really in socal...

The cx210 is great so I have high hopes for this. If it has hot swappable bays and great battery life I'll upgrade. Also I don't see any mention of a discrete graphics option like the 210 has.
Luisito @ Apr 19th 2007 12:11PM
at the gateway website it only shows the option of a xp tablet os, i thought it was a vista system, the price is a little hi comparing it with the c210x and 800 vs 1800 and comparing it with a hp tx1000 i think hp will give you a better deal if you don't mind passing on the wacom + touchscreen combo of the gateway tablet
Callaway @ Apr 19th 2007 1:36PM
Looking like it's going to run $1800+. Ouch.

Gateway tech support is the best. HP gave me such an incredible run around I took their $2000 computer back and traded it for a Gateway. I can't believe what a good deal I got for the money.
