iPhone to get software development kit at WWDC?

Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
I wish they'd supply additional info about how to get one. Yes, the Apple stores and AT&T are supposed to carry them. But no pre-orders? How insane is that?
I lost track of the number of iPhone posts on engadget in the past 24 hours. Someone has iphone fever, I on the other hand say screw that thing and screw ATT
Enough about the damn iPhone already. Some people just don't care about it. Everyone has seen the other 300 news posts about it. Get back to real news.
We're not skipping other news to publish about the iPhone -- so you're not missing anything. Feel free to not read iPhone-related stories... this is how it is with any big product launch.
iPhone? what' that? I hope they make more posts so I can learn about this device...
when the iPhone was first announced, i hated apple... now I've used a mac at school for 3 weeks and loved it. in 2 weeks i will buy a 24" iMac and a MacBook and will never go back to windows ever. so bring on the iPhone stories i enjoy reading them, oh and the LED MBP stories.
Ryan Block: "We're not skipping other news to publish about the iPhone -- so you're not missing anything. Feel free to not read iPhone-related stories... this is how it is with any big (Apple) product launch."
Fixed that for ya.
Seems like it's the same thing being posted over and over... 1 story shouldn't be turned into 5 separate ones. But keep posting them, I love seeing the comment fights. Yeah, I know I need a life, but until I can buy one these fights will have to do.
Because we didn't give same wall-to-wall coverage of the Xbox 360, Zune, Wii, PS3, etc.?
Honestly man, ya all those products did get good coverage. But there has been 5 iphone posts (that I counted) in a period of about 24 hrs. No I dont recall those products getting that much attention in a single day. Not EVERYONE cares about iphone. Not being an ass but Almost all the posts said about the same thing: June 29th, June 29th, June 29th, and um June 29th.
But now that I think back seems like appleTV got this much rediculous posts as often as well. Strange pattern.
what a waste of money this thing is....
"Just in case you haven't heard the news"
How in any conceivable way can we have missed it?
Hmmm... now I keep thinking, 'inconceivable!'
Hello, my name is iPhone. You killed my father, prepare to die...
The best part about the iPhone is how aggravated everyone is acting.
I don't understand how come people just can't skip of the story?? There are lots of people excited about the product....and this type coverage really helps with having to deal with the wait. If you guys don't like...damn, just keep scrolling or go to a different website.
Lots of Zune/Wii/PS3 posts, yes, and rightly so.
Multiple posts saying the same thing - or nothing ("Give this man an iPhone!"), sorry, not that I recall.
Thing is Ryan, the 360/PS3/Wii don't have an edition of Engadget dedicated to them. iPhone is a mobile device, so why doesn't the majority of this news go to Engadget Mobile and only there. If there were one or two main news stories about it fine, but really, does there need to be non-stop non-news about this thing here? If so I say get rid of Engadget Mobile, what's the point of it?
eh... how quickly people forget the pre-zune launch. it was like five zune posts a day on engadget. i didn't care about zune. i didn't read the zune posts. that easy.
engadget... please keep all the iphone rumors coming. don't let a couple bad apples ruin the bunch! arg. bad joke. sorry.
so now for the real question: when should we expect pre-oders to start? june 11th?
I'll be glad once its launched and people can realize it for what it is, another ho hum PDA Phone thats a generation behind in hardware and connectivity options. Maybe then everyone will shut up.
Add 2 hours to the release date for the projected "Holy crap I already have to recharge my battery?!?!" date.
Wouldn't it be funny if Ryan Block got a lowest rank for his post on his article. If he doesn't, I probably will.
"and this type coverage really helps with having to deal with the wait."
Oh, Jesus. What a fuckin' pollyanna. Having trouble dealing with the wait? Have you considered a support group? Medication?
There's nothing more tedious than listening to the "I'm SO over Apple" brigade.
They've been going at it for the last 5 years predicting that the world has moved on. Meanwhile, Apple is taking over the freaking world.
This is the biggest technology launch in years (yes, bigger than PS3 or Vista).
We all know what's going to happen:
1. Apple will blow their sales numbers away
2. There will be some tiny problem affecting a total of 5 iPhone users and everyone will glom onto that story.
3. iPhone will keep reiterating into the dominant smart phone.
Apple employee alert.
There's nothing wrong with people being really excited over a product. Try growing up and stop trying to be a hardass behind a computer monitor.
"My name is Travis, and I'm an iPhone addict."
@ Robert
Falling in love is a beautiful thing.
How soon before they put a countdown clock on the top of the page?
I don't see why you guys are bitching about all the iPhone posts. Remember all the posts about the Zune, and the Optimus Maximus, and so on?
My only complaint is that there has yet to be a post summarizing all the iPhone round-up posts.
I refer Alex to my post of 3.20pm.
Lots of posts, yes. Lots of no-news or news repeated over and over and over and over and over and over again, no.
Come on, Engadget! It's been almost an hour! Where is my new 'iphone' post?!?!? WHERE IS IT, DAMN YOU?!?!?!?!??
@ James
What?
I was joking that engadget should do a roundup post summarizing and linking to all of the iPhone roundup posts to date. What does your post have to do with anything? lol
There's a big difference between being really excited about a product and suffering from some kind of anguish an ennui over having to wait three weeks for it's release, Cartman.
John, you got that right. My fiancee saw the commercial for the first time last night...to my amazement, she wants one too. doh.
Alex,
I noticed that in the second sentence, but your first did nothing of the sort and it is to that statement my comment was aimed.
You need to hone the irony skills a tad. Sorry old boy.
James. It was part of the sarcastic setup to the joke. I'm sorry if my humor is not up to your wit standards. I'll work on it, though. Tonight I'll "hone" my "irony skills" until acceptable.
Wow James, you must get all the girls.
Since you cannot pre-order the iPhone, and the web site will obviously be down on the 29th from everyone trying to buy one all at once, does that mean the only way to get one is to line up a week early like the PS3 launch?
Has anyone ever camped out in front of a Cingular store for a week before?
Here's the real question:
If the iPhone fails to live up to the wild expectations of those completely divorced from its actual design, sale, and marketing, will it be voted worst gadget of the year for 2007?
Not here it won't.
James,
you're needed at Deadspin! they keep harping on the NBA playoffs and other major sporting events. knock them down a peg or two.
lol, some of you guys are absolutely hilarious.
But really engadget, "release date roundup?" Please.
I know, you people are crying instead of ignoring this article because you're regretting not buying Apple stock sooner. Don't worry, you can still get in on it before it takes another big leap. Love or hate 'em, the company can make you enough money to buy a couple iPhones to smash.
first off i would like to say, i do want an iphone but there are several factors that seem to be no brainers that will keep me from purchasing one:
1. price, price, price. (most people that will buy and iphone are apple fans, and already have a ipod, so paying for another ipod is silly. i dont even use the 3 i all ready have.
2. no 3g. this is a shock to me and i still cannot figure out why this was the way apple went?
3. 5 hour battery. my razr can go 3 days without recarging, am i expected to charge this thing every night? what about if im going to a business meeting several hours away? is the phone going to die before i can charge it?
4. no 3rd party support. like most people i get my email from an exchange server, so no support for this is definate no purchase!
5. 2 year contract and again the price is still 499/599. if your signing a 2 year, the price should drop dramatically.
granted, i still want one but unless i get one through work, which wont happened b/c of the email/change server think, i wont be getting one.
I think students are going to be the most likely to want an iPhone. Students who are part of a family plan--with discounts on additional phones. Sadly, AT&T doesn't offer this on data. A family with 3 iPhones is going to have a $200+/month phone bill. Unsuspecting parents might buy the phone, but they data charges are going to kill this phone's popularity. $10m by end of next year? Maybe if AT&T restructures their data plans--otherwise, don't count on it.
There was an ad on TV about the iPhone displaying the smoothness of all its features and stuff made by AT&T. At the end of the ad it said June 29th, there we go.
Actually I'd really like to see a new iPhone news story.
"Cing&T expands reliable coverage to... well anywhere"
I live in a city called Murfreesboro, TN which is a directly adjacent suburb to Nashville and has a county-wide population of ~150k. So, stuff the data, My roomie can't make a call in our living room because her phone will barely pull 2 bars.
My Q (which i have a Hate/Love/Loath relationship with) on Verizon has spectacular signal (and nearly a megabit of data bandwidth).
I really want to leave Verizon, but not to the point of accepting VERY sub-par service in my area. And I'm getting this feeling that Apple didn't pantent all this great stuff to sell it only to cingular when the rest of the market would love to have it sans cell radio...
Eccentric, yes. Foolish, not so much.
If the iPhone had 3g, I could get excited. But I can't. Why would I dump my 8525 with 3g and go to an iphone. Many people are 3g now...I can't believe they wouldn't see going back to edge as a stepdown.
"Thing is Ryan, the 360/PS3/Wii don't have an edition of Engadget dedicated to them. iPhone is a mobile device, so why doesn't the majority of this news go to Engadget Mobile and only there."
Umm... Joystiq?
Yes the iPhone is a mobile phone, but I often see posts about new razrs, nokias, htcs, and helos on here as well because they are... gadgets!
should video game systems stay on joystiq? should cars stay on autoblog? not if they are tech related as well...
too expensive
