Evercool Magic fan cools notebooks, messes up souls
Evercool, a company long-respected amongst modders for its extensive line of fans, heatsinks and related peripherals, has taken a strange and surprising turn towards the occult with its new laptop fan, the Magic. Sure, it will cool your laptop down with its patented design, 180-degree "wind position switch", and glowing, circular lights, but what is it doing to your eternal soul? If its wacky website animations are any indication, flame-ringed pentagrams are in your future.

So... it's going to cool your notebook with hellfire?

"Pentacle exterior designs offer a mysterious touch"
xD

You have to believe that symbol has any meaning to really be bothered by it. Maybe they will offer a replacement sticker of a six point star of David to cover that one for those still believing in that stuff.

What a terribly strange marketing decision. I doubt there will be many people who are actually drawn to the design. Sure, it may have at one time been an ancient symbol associated with the Greeks, Babylonians, even Jesus and early Christians. However, now, it's pretty much universally interpreted as the sign of the occult and "devil worship." Correct interpretations aside, a vast majority of would-be consumers are probably going to shy away from this product because of its connotations.
You could give me isolated examples, like Doom 3 and Slayer, that sold a lot of product using this symbol, but those products have a very narrow target market. (Single males aged 15-35) This product could have had a much broader market. Heck, I'm looking for a good cooling solution for several laptops in my office, but you can bet that my boss, although a pretty die-hard agnostic, will not be allowing employees to take this onto client sites or sales presentations.

Love it:
"You could give me isolated examples, like Doom 3 and Slayer, that sold a lot of product using this symbol, but those products have a very narrow target market. (Single males aged 15-35)"
We all know that the 15–35 year-old male just isn't an attractive market.

This is a very interesting concept and I believe should be very useful to owners of 'larger' laptops like the HP zd8000 series. These laptops really heat up fast and this should help to expel the air. Only thing bugging me is the seemingly-tiny clips that cling onto the laptop itself...

I own this device, and it performed quite well. The clips were workable, but just a little fussy. It dropped the temps on a gtway tablet (Chernobyl), which I thought was impossible. I am not possessed by the ghost of Allister C; perhaps the marketing director was.

I want one of these for the sheer novelty value. It will go on the shelf with all my Thanko gear.
Paul @ Jun 22nd 2007 7:24PM
It is a bad marketing decision, but couldn't you just put another sticker on top of it?
Zeus the God @ Jun 22nd 2007 7:36PM
That pentagram makes me want one no matter what it is...

I googled and found nothing. What the hell does ال يرجى [أورل] استطاع لم يكن استرجعت mean? :p
T-man @ Jun 23rd 2007 12:04AM
where can i get one?
Luke @ Jun 23rd 2007 10:43AM
I really wish the label said "Magic: The Cooling" - how ridiculous would that be?
njfuzzy @ Jun 23rd 2007 6:31PM
Five-pointed stars, even in an occult context, are hardly solely associated with evil. The tongue-in-cheek assumption of Satanism is unknowingly pretty insensitive to people who associate this symbol, and magic, with less sinister beliefs.
I want to buy one @ Jun 21st 2008 5:58AM
would somebody who has this product comment on the usefulness of this product..and not its freakn logo..-_-
