Logitech's QuickCam Pro 9000 and Notebook webcams bring Carl Zeiss glass
Logitech just stepped up their webcam game with the introduction of a pair of $100 QuickCam Pro 9000 and QuickCam Pro for Notebooks. These are the first two webcams to carry a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens under a new exclusive deal 'tween the two. Besides the highly touted optics, the cams feature a less than 3 second auto-refocus time, a 2 megapixel sensor, recordings at 30fps and 960 x 720 pixels, and compatibility with Skype and all the other popular PC video messaging applications. Both should ship in Europe and the US before July is done.

have one at home.. quickcam pro 9000! I did many tests with several pro SW.
Logitech lies, this is no HD cam..
640 × 480: 30fps max
960 x 720: 15fps max -> this is no HD
I think that quick cam pro 9000 is the best choice today. You can compare it with other webcams at http://www.coolcheapest.com/Webcams/194--Logitech_QuickCam_Pro_9000_Webcam.aspx or find other webcams at http://www.coolcheapest.com/webcams.aspx.
Hurrah. Looking forward to 720p amateur video webcam porn.
720p has a frame rate of 50fps (UK) or 60fps (US). 960x720 at 30fps is the equivalent quality of 720i and so not 'HD'.
@Dan, but who is going to upload 60 fps on skype? lol
daisy, daaiiiisyy......
I hope someone other than me got that. Pure gold.
Carl Zeiss glass with a crappy ccd = crappy image.
I haven't seen one webcam which actually takes great video when using Skype etc. Colors are washed out, lighting stinks, etc..
When I hook up a firewire DV video camera and use it with skype, the image is way better. Now only of the frame rate was better as well.
On that note, how hard is it for Skype to have native support for firewire cameras?
webcam would be pretty sweet. oh yeah and Engadget rocks!

NICE ITEM
Looks a lot better than my cheapo webcam. I'd like to see a laptop giveaway as well.
Not sure if you wathed the video of Walt on WSJ.com, but I have to comment your locked into asking the carrier to unlock your phone because the carrier paid for a portion of your phone. It's as simple as that. I bought an HTC advantage unlocked without a plan on-line to use with my T-mobile service which i've had for years. I decided I wanted to switch to ATT for their 3G network, I cancelled one plan and started another, just had to switch sims, easiest process in the world. As for phones locked from applications and the apple iPhone being the first real computer phone I'd have to disagree, I've used a pocket pc phone for 4 years now and have been able to install apps, check e-mail, switch web browsers, etc on it just fine. Walt Def has a thing for Apple products...
Does it work with a mac? Photobooth and ichat?
