DIY multitouch table explained step-by-step
Those tempted by the idea of building their own multitouch table but put off by the high degree of difficultly may want to check out the latest DIY walkthrough by "turkey tek" at the ever-useful Instructables website, which breaks things down step-by-step. Like similar setups, this one relies on a projector for the main component, but thoughtfully employs a swivel ceiling mount so you don't have to sacrifice your home theater for the cause. As for the rest of the project, while it's certainly well-explained and helpfully-illustrated, it's still quite an ambitious homebrew endeavor, so be sure you know what you're getting into before you start busting apart webcams.

Breaking News:
Engadget makes a non iPhone related post. Apple fanboys everywhere cry out in anger and insist that Engadget continue to make useless iPhone posts.
last time i checked, the iPhone is a gadget - a pretty important gadget that people find particularly interesting. so naturally, it would make sense to for engadget to post about it, right?
and they posted feed links without any iphone info... twice! sheesh!
Ah, but the iPhone news is causing them to ignore equally (if not more) innovative gadget news. For example, a recent message board post has announced lots of information about the Neo 1973 (first smartphone running under the OpenMoko platform), including FIC's fantastic commitment to the project, future plans, the release date and pricing for the first hardware revision, final details for the second hardware revision, and a fine reminder of why the project is actually a much more important innovation than whatever closed platforms may come along.
This multitouch table here is a fine example of why that is...
Big-Ass Table, here I come!
I could understand if it was a good post and not this drek. That table is garbage. I'm sorry
cool
yea nikjimi
Guys, electronics are supposed to get smaller, not bigger. If I wanted a computer (tf is it?) that would take up half a room I'd use my iPhone to travel back to the 50's.
That's right. You deserve to watch HDTV on a 7 inch screen. Those 40 plus inch displays are just antiquated dinosaurs.
Another multitouch table tutorial I've seen...

Isn't really too difficult.
Kind of old really, we started doing that stuff end 2006 after being inspired by Jeff Han. I wrote a howto that you can download from my website at http://www.multitouch.nl
We also started a community to building these solutions end 2006 at http://www.nuigroup.com
