If the
electric car died, it has been very much revived by recent events:
Ford and power company Edison are to partner on the creation of vehicles capable of being plugged into a power outlet. The new cars won't dump the combustion engine completely, but instead opt for a
hybrid solution -- Ford is obviously not interested in cutting all its ties just yet. The precise details are to be unveiled at a press conference in California, so we won't know until then exactly how green the two companies are hoping to get. At least this time around the two companies are considering the infrastructure (hence the inclusion of a power company) rather than just focusing on the vehicles.

Let's hope they can manage to make an Electric car that doesn't look like a 1970's throwback and is actually practical...

Great, but until battery technology makes serious advances, pure EV's will still be taking a back seat to Hybrids. But until then, cars like mine http://www.kickngas.org will have to do!

Nice! I just signed a contract to install a PV system on my roof, and a plug-in hybrid will mean I may be able to do a lot of local driving 100% powered by free solar energy!

There are plenty of vehicles, even Fords, that plug into a household outlet already. It uses the power to keep the engine from freezing in the winter. "Capable of being plugged into a power outlet" doesn't necessarily mean "runs on electricity". ;-)

i won't be interested until i can spend less than $40,000 on one of these cars. There's no way the regular joe shmo who has a decent job can afford one of these kinda cars. every time one is produced it's priced as a god damn house is.
