More Sidekick Slide eye candy
The single picture of the Sidekick Slide from Danger (alias "Zante" in codename parlance) posted yesterday on Boy Genius Report left us wanting for... oh, say, 27 more pictures, to be precise. That gallery is now live, showing the Motorola "M" logo (a first for a Danger device) in all its metallic glory, some comparo shots to a Sidekick 3, and -- of course -- the obligatory iPhone shot. Check it out!

Yeah, the new one looks like a Fisher Price version of the Sidekick 3 which actually looked halfway decent.
anthony @ Jul 11th 2007 11:44AM
what the hell? the new one is incredible ugly, and so far it doesnt look like it has any new features from the 3rd one? Thats really dissapointing.
Goodman @ Jul 11th 2007 1:50PM
Well, it IS expected to have a 320 × 240 resolution screen, which would be a step forward. And a newer version of the OS. It supposedly won't have a higher resolution camera though, which is a disappointment. Still, with the Hiptop it's all about the keyboard, messaging apps and great OS.

The best thing about the SideKick family was the face that the screen was different and instead of being traditional it swirled around. This new one looks like a budget model with its small screen but I doubt that because of its "M" logo. Oh well, when this one comes out at least the prices on the SideKick 3 will drop =D.

Sidekick Slide? Why don't they just call it the sLidekick and get it over with!
Nando @ Jul 11th 2007 12:05PM
Wow...it looks like a toy for toddlers...who can read. :|

I don't believe that this fugly POS can be classified as "eye candy". I don't care how many drink I have, I'm still not taking it back to my place.

Does no one remember this road map?? They are right on track. Not quite sure what to expect from the model due this Fall.... http://www.engadget.com/2005/11/26/sidekick-iii-product-roadmap-revealed/

This SLIDE is the next Sidekick ID if you want, the upscale version is coming later this year (perhaps?) and will STILL be made by SHARP

I'm really amaized at the user/fan base the SIDEKICK has built over the years.
Sidekicks have stolen once loyal Nextel buyers and it is probably the best PDA on the market under $500.
I was dissapointed in the Sidekick 3 because it doesn't take video. I think the Sidekick would be better with a slide design because it would be slightly more compact and not require the swivel room. Probably resist breakage better to.
for trademarks' sake they wouldn't change the sidekick to a slide so maybe they should call it SLIDEKICK?
ElMAGNiFiCO @ Jul 11th 2007 2:10PM
A New version of sidekick with no new features, and almost same OS with nothing revolutionary?
Megan @ Jul 11th 2007 2:53PM
I kinda like it. Its not like they are marketing towards high-end techies or business people. Its more for teens and early 20's who have IM addictions. Most people buying this won't care about specs. As long as it can IM and has a camera.

SLKK=SLideKicK as per Motorola naming conventions. Phooey.
I appears that a phone like that would be rather hard to use to type messages quickly while holding it in one hand. It doesn't appear to be designed to use one's thumbs for texting. It looks like a device you'd have to put on a table or one's lap and input text. I'm curious if it has good balance once you slide the screen out.
prokanda @ Jul 31st 2007 9:51AM
Have you never seen/used a sidekick? they're not designed to be used "one handed".. you're supposed to hold it with two hands and type with your thumbs.. which is exactly what it's designed for....?! This iteration is no different.
And as for the balance? other than the way the screen opens (sliding.. which seems MORE stable for opening than a screen that wobbles open like the previous models) this is the same overall look/design that sidekicks have always had.. and I don't think that you'd get much of a complaint about the useability of this design. I used to own a SKII.. it was one of the most awesome devices I've ever owned for texting/IMing because of it's simplistic design and excellent keyboard.

Isn't the "eye candy" term only applied when something is pleasant to the...eye? That thing is horrible!
Skyla @ Jul 11th 2007 5:49PM
ew...the sidekick3 looks way better to me.
louis @ Jul 24th 2007 2:32PM
In comparison to the slidekick i prefer the keyboard and the screen size but i prefer the screen border of the slidekick as well as the resolution< aftr all the sk3 only has 65000 colors>...that would be the icing on the cake for the sk3, even though it couldnt be a swivel nemore( which i prefer)..sidekicks r the coolest phones which have the qwerty keyboard and r probly the most stylish...obviously the sk3 prices will drop as the slikekick is released( between aug 30th-sept 22) but the sk3 will still be more expensive. aftr all nothing much would have changed between them...so the sk3 would be for the younger young crowd, while the slidekick would be for the older younger crowd because it will be much easier the carry around which is convenient for business.
stunna @ Aug 11th 2007 5:45PM
how much is it going to cost

SLIM @ Oct 2nd 2007 9:35PM
WHAT THE HEKK!!???
the SK-slide looks worst than the SK-iD. i mean the new lx is pretty awesome because just by looking at it you get attracted to it and you can tell that they have really worked on it, but the slide??? omgosh. i don't think that thing should be released to the public. it looks like a sk2 only has a glossy shine to it. it looks like a toy for my baby cousin. well if/or when they come out with it, they hopefully would have a nice price on it. that's the least they could do.

I like the Slidekick far better. Thicker is always better for me. I can't hold them thin weenie things and its cool its like a mini-computer in design and function. I love it. It'd also be nice if they had faceplates so you can customise the colour.
I love how high-contrast the screen and browser and keys are. Disabled people will love the Slidekick, I think. I'm deaf and wear bifocals, so I find the Slidekick very handy and nice. I wonder how much they'll ask for this, as well as how costly it'll be to run per month.
It also looks rugged, which is nice. More mileage and probably less breakage. It'd be nice if it included a built-in screen protector, though. So that's my only beef with it.
