New ACCESS Linux Platform screenshots emerge
For those still remotely interested in the ACCESS Linux Platform, we applaud you, and to reward you for your faith, ACCESS has reportedly launched a web portal chock-full of new screenshots from the forthcoming ALP. Admittedly, a few of the captures look mighty similar to those we saw back in February, but the new "User Experience" demonstration vividly depicts the screens found when visiting your Contacts, Photos, Music Player, Dialer, Home / Incoming Call screens, and Launcher. Go on, hit up the gallery for some high-resolution footage.

So when can I put this on my Tmob Wing and actually be able to rely on my phone. :-)
It looks like the platform is designed for a full screen interface... is that next for treo
Way to alphabetize the contacts by first name. :(
If it is anything like any modern mobile OS I am sure the contact list can be sorted through either last name or first name.
That's a funny picture, because it reverse last name order, based on the 3 names shown.
Hey... Looks like they've finally updated the interface!
Hopefully no more ZLauncher for me soon!
Lars isn't really a reject.
Nor is he the answer.
Terry Benedict is hot ;-)
Below "iMessenger" it says "Phone." Coincidence?
I think so.
Yeah...at least it is something new!
Not..

Hmmm... Windows Mobile costs OEM $14 per copy... in the scheme of device costs why would an OEM hook up with this laggard immitation when they could get Windows Mobile for $14 and Microsoft support and indemnity that goes with it? Uhh.. they won't.
Because Windows Mobile is just as glitchy as the Vista and just as resource hungry. There is a lot of nice hardware on the market, but the software simply sucks and that is why millions of people still use their Treos and buy new Treos when the old one brakes.
Why the hate? If Palm can get off their dead asses to ship a linux-based Treo that'll run my old Palm software, I'm there. Can't be worse than the crap from Symbian (my e61 blows), or MS.
Yes, that's a big if, tho.
Nothing we've seen so far about ALP suggests that it's any great shakes... but unlike "PalmOS II" or whatever Palm is calling their homegrown linux Garnet replacement, at least it exists. If any US-based carrier ships an ALP-based phone in 2007, I'll drop my Treo for it in a heartbeat.
...not that that's going to happen. Sigh.
I'm glad ALP is progressing and they decided to create these GUI mockups for us, but unless the phone it's attached to has XGA resolution, it's not going to look even remotely as nice as these screenshots, especially with those thumbnails.
Why won't Pat Smith answer my calls? I tried calling at work...nothing. On her mobile...nothing. I just want to be friends.
The screenshots resolution are 360x480 which isn't far off from 320x320 that Palm uses for their Palm OS Treos or the long standard 320x480 HVGA screens.
I think these mock up shots will look as lovely as they will be if it is on a phone screen.
Not sure what screen shots you're looking at but the ones posted here in Engadget's gallery are 1067x800.
