Remember
Sony's rumored Rolly something-or-other? Well, it's official with a full-blown Rolly teaser campaign launched by Sony in Japan. No details other than confirmation of its audio entertainment roots. By the looks of things, we'll be getting the full poop around September 10th when the "Rolly Special Party" kicks off. Gotta say, it's been awhile since we've seen Sony market a new product so heavily. And with keywords such as "communication," "small," "share," "free," "shuffle," and "kurukuru" (translated: go round and round) splattered around the page, color us intrigued -- although barely after being subjected to a gaggle of giggling chicks in the throes of the chicken dance. Who are the idiots that are being hired to come up with these names? Rolly? Zune? If someone hears the name of your product and cant even come close to figuring out what the fuck it is, you have a problem. How hard is that to understand, this is a basic marketing principle. I guarantee that this Rolly, whatever it is, will underachieve, just like the Zune and every other device out their with a stupid, nondescript name.

um, it is, considering that the device is a pod shaped piece of electronics that is made for personal use. Way to make yourself look stupid. I didn't say explanatory, I said descriptive. When you hear iPod, even for the first time, you get a mental image. it may not be the right one, but you get an image, because it is a descriptive name. When you hear Rolly, what device pops into your head? None, because the name doesn't describe shit.

when i saw/heard 'ipod' i thought of a tripod but with an 'i' shaped leg. not very 'personal mp3 listening device'-like

let's be honest, although the name sounds odd, there are a truck load of other products that sound equally odd;
ixus, wii, ipod, presario, pavilion etc. and let's be grateful sony have actually given it a name, most of it's products are like the walkman ex-501fm99op or the cybershot DSC-t1900.

At least I am extremely curious about what Sony has come up with. My bet is, that the player is not designed to compete directly with iPod of Zune. I think that Rolly is rather aimed for social interaction and sharing music.
At any case, I am extremely curious about what the device will be like, and if it will communicate with my PS3 and PSP. I even put up a small internet site with forum etc. to further discuss the Rolly and it's forecomin.
